As the title subtly suggests I shall soon be the owner of a spanking new strat. I had been waiting until my eighteenth birthday so I could get a guitar on finance, the advantage being I don't empty the account at once, and get my guitar that day. However after a small bit of thought I decided against that. I'm starting university soon and it isn't a good idea to start in debt.

So I planned to just wait and save up. The other day I went into my local guitar shop, and sitting on the wall was a brand new American Standard in Sienna Sunburst and a maple neck......

It is beautiful. The grain is perfect, and the join is barely noticeable - I had to have a good hard look before seeing it. I plugged it in and it sounded amazing. I fell in love instantly. The finish was nice, the neck was smooth and it sounded perfect. I put down a thirty percent deposit there and then. It should (hopefully) be paid off in a month or so.

Ooooooooooooohhhhh, I am so looking forward to getting it home :D

Congratulations! I hope to be joining you shortly! I've had my eyes on an Am Std Strat in sunburst with a rosewood neck! It is something to behold! As soon as I played it I knew it was the one!

Very wise...years ago while I was sill in college I went to The Friend for a set of strings and to "look around", and while I did get a set of strings, they were attached to an American Standard Tele. Needless so say I couldn't afford it, I got behind on my CC payments, eventually had to sell the guitar and I'm still paying off my credit card... (the trip to Europe and Morocco didn't help either). Anyhooo....

Congrats on your new guitar and good choice on saving up for it... it'll mean more to you I suspect knowing that you had to bust $@! and save up for it. Cheers.

Congrats on your first Strat. I bought the same guitar about a month ago, and it is just amazing, in looks, playability and sound. I had to wait a few weeks to get her, and I'm glad I did. A real keeper.

Very nice. It'll be home before you know it. I did the same thing nearly 3 years ago when purchasing my '08 American Std 3-tone sunburst w/maple neck. I also did the same thing recently when I put an '03 Gibson LP Std Heritage Cherry Burst on layaway. It took a few months to get them out of layaway but in the end it was well worth it. Plus you don't have extra debt hanging over your head.

Go forth and save, young man. Oh, and we want pics when you bring her home!
