YES! learn the 12 bar blues system, Almost every form of guitar playing follows it some way or another! Most 3 chord song are 1,4,5 from blues to Classic Rock on up to current music.
I Started out playing Alternative like Nirvana and stuff like that, and I was in a musical holding pattern untill I learned to understand the 12 bar blues system and now I can almost anything. I used to jam with guys that have been doing this stuff for years and finally some one taught me the basics and it opened somany doors in terms of understanding Key changes, Correct Chord progressions, playing favorite songs in the key you naturally sing out of. Believe it or not you can sing Guns and Roses if you learn to play the songs in a Key thats vocal friendly.
Other than learn the 12 bar blues you can google search
3 Chords songs there are plenty of them out there, and alot are popular songs.

When I was teaching, I would stay with three or four chord songs for beginners and students, some, but not all are :

Knockin On Heaven's Door - Dylan/Clapton/GnR
Evil Ways - Santana
You Really Got Me - The Kinks
It's All Over Now - Stones
Wild Thing - The Troggs/Hendrix/Prince
Is This Love - Bob Marley
Shout At The Devil - Motley Crue
Smoke on the Water - Deep Purple
Big Me - Foo Fighters
Old Love - Eric Clapton
Wonderful Tonight - Clapton
Drops of Jupiter - Train
Blister in the Sun - Violent Femmes
The Middle - Jimmy Eat World
Stacy's Mom - Fountains of Wayne
Picture - Kid Rock & Sheryl Crow
Dancing in the Dark - Springsteen
Livin On A Prayer - Bon Jovi
La Bamba - Los Lobos
Down By The River - Neil Young
Horse With No Name - America
Sweet Home Alabama - L.S.
All Summer Long - Kid Rock
Werewolves of London - Warren Zevon
Rhianna - Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks

And the other hundreds of songs that follow a C-F-G (progression)
or a C-Am-F-G type progression...there are tons of 'em.

That should get you started, then you'll know about a thousand blues tunes too!

Good luck!

great post reply mike. there are several songs in your list that i forgot that were so much fun to play.

Location: Yes. I exist somewhere.
If you like Santana, I highly recommend Oye Como Va and Everybody's Everything. 2 chords and 3 chords, respectively, and lots of people have heard these songs.
