My advice would be to learn to play as many songs as you can. All types of music.

My suggestion is if there is a certain artist you wanna sound like or play like. I would start learning their stuff first then expand as you go. I try to learn two new songs about every 5 weeks. It will be tough at first but as you learn more and more songs it get easier.

Many songs by Creedence Clearwater Revival will do the trick. Great melodies and well written and for the most part simple chord structure. Look at Bad Moon Rising and Who'll Stop the Rain to start.

Chuck Berry, thats all any guitarist needs to know. Anything else is repetition.
Get the rhythm bang on. Get the lead breaks to stop and start in all the right places.

Once you can do that, everyone will want you to play for em.

I like to play songs in diferent keys so I can sing in my range and the song itself is easier :D give that a try :wink:

House of the Rising Sun ~ The Animals
Wild Thing ~ The Troggs
Day Tripper ~ The Beatles
Detroit Rock City ~ KISS
Back in Black ~ AC/DC

I'v been playing for about 6 months. It comes naturally to me. The first song I learned was Detroit Rock City and thats somewhat easy. It does really depend on what you like though.
Also, I suggest you play rhythm first before jumping to lead.

This is a good list that fenderflamestrat put together. House of The Rising Sun is good for beginner's chord changing.
