We have multiple versions of Clapton, SRV,Eric Johnson et. al. signature guitars..personally I'd like to see a few others like perhaps a reproduction of Jerry Garcia's "Alligator" strat on which he played a lot of the Dead's early seventies material. or Zappa's "Hendrix" strat. Or perhaps a Buddy Holly signature strat. I'm sure there are a lot of other's...anybody?

Please enlighten me - with all the Strat artists who looked up to Hank Marvin in the early days, was there ever a red Hank Marvin sig guitar marketed?

Yeah, 1998 from Custom Shop 40 were made(Hank Marvin).

I would love to see an Andy Scott(Sweet) Signature, very much underrated player. I know he used non modded(maybe some DiMarzios) guitars but I would love to buy one.
Big headstock, black or natural.

Robin

My own, like the one I built. Once piece quarter sawn maple neck, with the head stock thinned out a little bit, not as much as Eric Johnson's, but thinner than stock, my hand shaped profile; basically a soft V, with some of the treble side shoulder shaved off, leaving me with the same with from fretboard to back of the neck, leaving the resonance, especially on the bass side. Locking tuners, one piece alder body (neck/body both shot with real thin skin nitro finish). Dimarzio Area 58/61/V.V. heavy blues, master tone pot w/ stellar tone tonestyler ( use to ride the tone knobs almost as much as the volume and pickup selector), and the pot thats usually used for middle(which is the dumbest design flaw in strats, and one i immediately ask a customer if they want me to change to the bridge, or middle/bridge. If theres one pickup that benefits from the tone knob, its the bridge), a Callaham Trem, a 500K volume pot, and series parallel push pull. The only thing I would change, is the location of the volume knob. While Im now use to it, I still find it an obstruction when Im palm muting. Other than that, working in a guitar repair shop, there arent many singature strats that come in that blow me away, and there are ALOT of redundencies. I mean; besides a few decibles on the active preamp, theres very little difference between the Eric Clapton, and the USA Buddy Guy. I find the John Mayer to be an overpriced MIM strat ( i know its a USA, but the quality is that of a MIM). Honestly the best artist series strat (and IMO the best production strat thats not a Custom Shop is the Eric Johnson, the design, and materials are the best Ive seen so far in a non-CS strat.)

reproduction of Jerry Garcia's "Alligator" strat

As someone who loves all things Jerry, I'd be the first to agree however it seems highly unlikely Fender would produce a Garcia Strat given all the custom all hardware and wiring that would be involved. Perhaps the custom shop might do a one-off but as far as any sort of release, however limited it might be, I'm guessing it wouldn't really be practical from a production standpoint.

Here's a very cool link with nice clone someone built though if anyone's interested...

If you want a Buddy Holly strat, just buy a American Vintage 57 Strat in sunburst. Same goes for many of the other greats too, they used mostly off the line production guitars. :) All you gotta do is buy the strat for the correct decade your hero played, and pick the right color !

John Page (former Fender Museum of Music & The Arts director and Custom Shop manager) has restored Buddy's iconic 1958 Strat a couple of years before founding his own guitar shop in 2003, here's a shot of him cradling the guitar after completing restoration work on the stunning icon of rock history.

Buddy's Strat is finished in 3-colour sunburst.

The general-production '57 reissue is available in 2-colour sunburst; however, you can order a 3-colour sunburst Time Machine '58 Strat Closet Classic from the Custom Shop if you want an exact replica of Buddy's original axe.

+1

Other possibilities: Lowell George, Ry Cooder (the Coodercaster!)

In terms of non-signature reproductions I'd like to see the Fender Bass VI make a comeback. Such a hip instrument!

Buddy Holly - the last guitar he owned with the 3-tone sunburst.

Each should have a pick hidden under the pickguard. 8)
