If your saying the bigsby is trumped by the fender strat trem. Then isn't the fender strat trem trumped by the Floyd Rose as it locks the strings in and doesn't go out of tune. So by you posts the fender trem is inferior and should be thrown away banished to pre 80's guitars?

It again points out to what type of player and where is pedagogy relevant to you as a player.
I fingerpick as well as use a pick, that is from playing classical as well as playing celtic style and open tuning on a steel string acoustic.
My strats are going to have to work within my expectations. A Bigsby doesn't fit the bill so to speak, as for the Floyd Rose system, I used to have a strat copy with one, I got rid of it within months. If you are playing George Lynch, Van Halen, Vai, Satriani compositions then a Floyd works, I do like to play all the above as well as Knopfler tunes, Allman Bros, Savoy Brown, etc..etc...in short my musical tastes are so varied that my guitars have to be wide ranging in capability. But also the Floyd Rose system and all its mechanical adjustments drove me nuts.
A well set up strat will perform as well but if you constantly dive bomb aggressively the Floyd will work, but your strings won't last very long, so there is a downside to all three systems.
For me, Leo Fender's is the best.
We all could argue these points till the cows came home and at the end we'll still have dissent. The irony is that Fender's trem was designed after the Bigsby but before the Floyd Rose, yet if one does a count of the most widely used...Leo's design trumps all.

Now looking at CPGuitar's pics, Nice strat but my question is how do you adjust the intonation exactly when the strings are doubled on three saddles ? Which is actually a problem on Tele's with the double string saddle bridges.
But again, it is a lot of needless hardware, which for me is going to get in the way.

It ends with what do you consider optimal for you.
Some people swear by their Ford Shelby Mustang's, or Camaro's. I'll take an Audi RS4 over a Mustang or Camaro on any road in any weather. ( My Dad will disagree with me but.. )

I'll be honest, the intonation has been more difficult to get perfect, but it is very good at the moment, and I'm still fiddling. It's a new bridge to me, so I need to get used to it to know how to get it right. As it stands, top four strings are bang on, but the two highest are falling a little flat up the neck, but not really noticeably. It is a compensated 3 saddle bridge, so it is better than a normal vintage tele bridge.

I actually find that it doesn't get in the way! And the arm can be swung right round on itself so it's completely out of my arms movement. The hardware itself I can actually use as an arm rest, which I found quite novel. It's comfortable!

Of course, I'm not arguing that it's better than the Fender trem, I'm defensive to people who don't put through an opinion more than downright dismiss it as stupid and obsolete. I'm really enjoying the effects that I can get from it, and I'm also bloody enjoying the extra sustain it's given my strat!! That was always a problem for me, my bandmate bought a Classic Player Jazzmaster and it would outlast my guitar by ten times when holding a note, but now it's a hell of a lot better. Obviously the Fender is discrete and brilliant, but another thing that I didn't like about my old floating bridge was that whenever I rested my hand on it, the notes could bend out of tune slightly if I pressed too hard... now, that problem is fixed too!!

Please don't do that to a Strat. It's just not right.

Hi CPGuitar I must say that the setup you have put on there looks so different that it's cool.Having said that if I had a choice I'd keep the Bigsby on my old Gretsch and the standard Fender system on my Strats-it's what I cut my teeth on.

Thanks! I must say again that at this point, if I had drilled holes into my guitar for the Bigsby, I would be crying. But I didn't! And that's the brilliance; I could have it back to it's original factory state within an hour with no lasting damage (or damage at all)! As it is, I love it... I think I'll be keeping it on for a long time yet... maybe forever!

Never played a bigsby and I'm really not a Trem guy at all but I think it looks kinda cool, especially with that color. It's yours do it how you like!

From my own personal experience I don't think it's a good idea.

Changing strings on the Bigsby vibrato system is a pain in the a**. Also the Fender style bridge that Fender uses with their Bigsby is terible. Also it would change the susstain and tone.

I owned a Tele with a Big. Trem. The vibrato worked well. I hated changing strings.

Well, nobody can argue with that! They are a bugger to change the strings on. But I use simple technique like notching the ball end to feed it round and holding the tension with a capo; working from outside in... it didn't take longer for me, just a bit more fiddly.

For me, I'm still adjusting the pickup height (not sure how to get the most out of them, anyone help?) and fine setting the intonation, but the sustain is already 3x better at least. I'm sure if I get the pickups to optimal height I can improve on that.

I did the whole "notch the ball" thing. If Bigsby were to curve or lengthen the pegs then there wouldn't be a problem.

oh theres just no way. a biggs on a strat? might as well put a slide from a trombone on it then. from the looks at some of these pics, folks have used a hardtail and placed a biggs on it. even a bigs on a tele looks like shiot. i couldnt and wouldnt do it. different strokes for different folks. i wont put you down for it as i have no right in doing so.
they are better suited for the hollowbody guitars in my opinion.

On my particular strat, the bridge is a custom made replacement, as it used to have a vintage 6 screw tremolo. You're right, though, whatever floats your boat, but I didn't drill into the body and wouldn't! So it's still undamaged!
