Ok, so i was sitting at lunch one day and was thinkin how good guitars look with a bigsby on them. And then i thought "why not put one on a strat?". Sure its impractical, but it would certainly be interesting. Thoughts?

ry cooder says that he put a bigsby on his strat because he think he gets a better sound when the strings do not go through the body

Honestly it just does not look good and i really dont see the point

I wonder if Fretboard Radius would raise any issues in that application??

What a great way to suck even more sustain out of a Strat and cause still more tuning stability issues!

(yawn......)

Cooder's guitars are pretty heavily modded; don't a lot of them have lap steel pickups instead of standard Strat pickups?

At any rate, I don't mind a Bigsby on a Tele; that can look kind of cool. On a Strat - no.

I've just fitted a ZZGuitarWorks E-Z Mount Bigsby B-50 to my Ltd. Ed. American Special Strat. It looks awesome, and no modifications, so I can return it to as before whenever I want. Seriously worth it, amazing feel, tone and look!

I've actually found the tuning stability has increased with the EZ Mount system, and sustain with it. They modify the bigsbys to overcome these issues.

Thank You....But No Thank You....

I'll take Leo Fender's engineering skills and idea's over Paul Bigsby everytime, a Bygsby just does not compare to a correctly setup Fender Trem.

If you do this.....Have pity...Please don't post any pics.

I'm sorry but can someone explain to me where the loss of individual string and saddle adjustment as well as string tension relating to appropriate number and strenght of claw springs and it's respective adjustment is an improvement by a Bigsby.. :?:   :?:  :?:

I have tried a Bigsby every so often for many years, each time I'm left with the fact that it is an inferior system.
Not to mention what do you do with that canoe paddle of a trem arm if you want it out of the way.... :?:

BTW...I seem to think that Leo Fender adhered to the engineering principle of...

I'd say you're a fool to say that; why stay closed minded and be afraid of new systems. This is a modified bigsby system. I'm telling you now, from fact, that the tuning is as, if not more stable, and it has bags more sustain and awesome tone. It has a larger downforce roller bar that gives some awesome sustain.

And it does look awesome, even if some don't like it. There are millions of standard strats for you to go and look at if you're scared of change.

First of all....I do not appreciate being called a fool for a differing opinion.

Secondly, Leo Fender was well aware of Bigsby's trem and that is the reason he engineered the strat version.
Scared of change... not at all, I just don't subscribe to stepping back when it comes to an inferior design.
I fail to see where the roller bar provides additional sustain, since the strings ride over the bridge, under the bar and around the tail bar.
Tell me that the entire unit transmits vibrations more efficiently.. OK... maybe.. but it is still a large piece of mechanical structure which gets in the way and is not as versatile as the Fender trem.

I have played both and just because something looks cool it still doesn't justify it's performance.
You can modify a 57 Chevy into infinity, it will still be a 57 Chevy, not an RS4.... 8)

Tu as raison, I shouldn't call you a fool, you just seemed very quick to dismiss and undermine.

I agree that it is mechanically inferior, but that doesn't mean it's useless. I would usually agree with you, but these bigsbys have the sound, feel and look, whilst being able to stay well in tune, sound fantastic and they don't squeak! It's well thought through, and the intonation and playability are just the same as before, but with that extra something different. I love the stratocaster, but don't like dismissing a modification which has created a unique and great sounding guitar.
