There have been ups and downs. On the up side, we seem to have fewer "let's see how many senseless posts I can make" and "polls about nonsense."

I refrain from entering the arguments (name-calling) and I attempt to post when I think I can offer something useful (like about vintage guitars, electronics, mathematics). It's best to leave the trolls hungry.

A lot of us are in this category Niki!!

That's a piezo pickup, not a magnetic pickup. Different animal and it's mounted directly into the bridge assembly which is in physical contact with vibrating strings. Cinder blocks are harder than wood. Less damping. I suspect the conspicuous presence of the bandana threaded between the strings on the back side of the bridge and pushed up against the bridge may be for a subtle damping effect but it's hard to say. Not a lot of R&D goes into concrete guitars. Gee, I wonder why.

Yes, I believe someday you will.

I realize we live in the modern age and all. We've grown fond of attempting to debunk ancient myths and if some folks are happy dismissing centuries of knowledge gathered from hands on experience by countless luthiers from disparate cultures and backgrounds in different eras all coming to similar conclusions while they build a multitude of different kinds of instruments then I've got some Kool-Aid for you to drink. And if you think that absolutely none of that tone wood knowledge applies to electric guitars, well, you have that right. It's a free society. I agree that wood plays a much, much, MUCH less significant role in electrics as it does in acoustics but it does play a small part. The self delusions are yours, not mine and not within the multi-billion dollar 60 year old industry which began smack dab in the middle of a scientific age. You know they did have scientific measuring tools in the 50s and 60s. You'd think they would have figured out by now that concrete, and oh hell, let's throw in styrofoam and dried dog chit all make excellent guitar bodies. Man are they ever stupid, huh?

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Hey BMW....Thanks a lot for the information. In fact, I think Im with you on this and I hope you dont suspect Im trying to prove the point that tonewoods dont matter. Im absolutely confident they do.

Speaking of dried composite materials to replace tonewoods, has anybody every tried one of those cocoa guitars????

No! Thanks for reminding me. How is it?

From what I read, it sounds interesting.

I have his first couple LPs ... and have always loved the Faces.

Nope, but I saw him on Top Gear a few weeks ago...."putting a star in a reasonably priced car." I guess he has a book that is out about his life as a musician. Now that should be interesting. He told a few stories on Top Gear...crazy.

Hey, you run into this kind of thing from time to time. I wouldn't suspect you, or anybody for that matter, of anything premeditatedly adversarial unless it slapped me in the face. Written words lack the tone of voice that communicates intention, so unless there's a written indication of some intention I usually try to dismss any connotations my mind may imagine. Guitar forums are ripe with strong willed opinions and that's just normal. Debates happen. Normally I try to stay out of the more volatile discussions because usually the truth is self evident enough that it needs no help from the likes of me but every once in a while some little bit of untruth that purports to be sound logic pops up and I stop biting my tongue because the younguns that gather here need at least one dissenting voice.

What we really need to do far more than anything else is to stop arguing about tonewoods because the part they play in a given player's tone is quite small. We need to convince everyone that it's the amp that makes the lion's share of your tone. More than wood, more than pups, more than neck joints, more than brand name and yes, more than hands, too.
