Very well thought out and written!

No! Thanks for reminding me. How is it? From what I read, it sounds interesting.I have his first couple LPs ... and have always loved the Faces.

See if you can find some 'sampling' around. His guest artists put together some nice sessions.

Jay...another option occurred to me. How about norweigian wood :?:  Once had a girl whose bed frame was made from it. If it ultimately doesn't prove to be an acceptable tone wood, one could always light a fire with it.

Sooooooo you were serious BigJay well heres my thoughts on it for what it's worth, the only differance will be what you feel in your own hands, weight possibly and possibly also a harmonic/sustain/vibration/feel change unplugged, although a good whack of poly over them levels it to my thinking, also I'd put money on it that if you laid out 10 strats 5 of each had Clapton, Beck or whoever play each one in turn to a group of luthiers or other guitarists the answer to which one was which would be a mixed bag

Interesting thread..... Regarding quality....

Well said X man.

I reckon the quality of posts has kind of remained the same. I was a lurker for at least a year before I joined up and those who freely share their knowledge and expertise then, are are still making quality posts here today.

I've also seen some pretty cool stuff and learnt a great deal from this community.... It will probably endure.... trolls and all.

Regarding Ash or Alder...

Ash, would be my choice though I prefer to work with mahogany.

On the whole Tone woods thang, Unplugged my mahogany guitars sound much nicer (to my ears) than my others (poplar, Ash, Alder). Plugged in, its a different story. YMMV

Hey, you run into this kind of thing from time to time. I wouldn't suspect you, or anybody for that matter, of anything premeditatedly adversarial unless it slapped me in the face. What we really need to do far more than anything else is to stop arguing about tonewoods because the part they play in a given player's tone is quite small. We need to convince everyone that it's the amp that makes the lion's share of your tone. More than wood, more than pups, more than neck joints, more than brand name and yes, more than hands, too.

You dont remember me, do you?

Listened to Ron Wood's new CD yet :?:

No, Doc. I have not listened to his CD. I didnt know he had a new CD out.

I love Ronnie Wood. IMO...he's the most underrated guitarist out there.

Its funny, you know? Think about the Stones, having 4 guitarists over 50 years. Not a single one of them is "flashy" or even particularly fast or sophisticated. But, to me, they make some of the greatest noises EVER with their guitars.

I recently listened to "Keif's" autobiography on CD. Its about 18 CDs, much of which is actually Johnny Depp and another guy reading in lieu of Richards. Keith does speak a bit though. Fascinating. I loved every minute of it. Richards is a very opinionated fellow, sarcastic and skeptical to the Nth degree, with a massive sense of humor.

I recommend it.

Ron Wood is a perfect foil for Richards from a standpoint of stagecraft. They look like a pair of dried out 'apple dolls' up there. However, from a standpoint of technique, I've always felt that, in live performance, Mick Taylor outplayed Richards. Richard's attention to detail is meticulous in the studio , but not on stage.

Hey guys!

Quick question.

Does ash or alder give better tone?

Thanks.

The wood does change the tone. I find Alder to be little warmer.
