I jumped on one of these this week from this seller as well, and I got it today.

I sent the bridge out to get re-tapped for new fine tuners. I can't wait to get it back and pop in the arm! I don't usually use the trem, but I think I'll try it more with this bridge.

funny ... I used the tremolo for the first time ever today... and I am very impressed with this tremolo... And the bar locks in there quite nicely...

One thing to keep in mind is that you pretty much need that tightening wrench also... that thing that looks like a dentist's pick...

and btw, my bridge was not locked up... I was a bit mislead... I think my guitar tech was referring to my nut...

I was wondering about that, glad it is working out for you.

The guy who sold me my MIJ had it all jacked up. It is hard to explain, but he had the strings mis-routed through the bridge, by wedging them under the fine tuner levers. He also had removed the screws and nuts from the string lock (see pic).

I took the whole bridge apart and got it back together again properly. One of the fine-tuners was stripped out so I sent the whole thing out to get re-tapped and new stainless fine-tuner screws. I was able to put the string lock back together as well so it will be ready to go when I finally get the bridge back. He had all 3 of the locking screws but only 2 sets of the square nut and washer. I was able to buy another square nut online and I made a square washer today by taking a round washer to a grinding wheel, it worked a treat.

I'm dying to get playing this thing. I'm pretty sure I had the exact same model guitar as my first strat, candy apple red and all. My dad bought it for me in 84 or 85, and I think I sold it a few years later (like a dummy). For all I know this is the same guitar, but that would be unlikely. I was going to make my own wrench out of a wire-hanger for tightening the collar, if I can't get that to work, I'll break down and order one off ebay.

Here is mine... viewtopic.php?f=6&t=37848

The only thing I needed to do was get the whammy bar... Now the guitar is complete... I was a bit surprised all the parts remained in tact after all this time... There are a lot of small parts on these guitars...

That bar is the easiest to lose, hardest to find
You're lucky.
They also fit the Performer (20% discount if sold without it !)
