Seems to be a reasonable choice. Fender put an SSL-5 bridge in the Gilmour...DG's preference in place of the SSL-1 which went into his guitar.
Safe journey to you. Keep us up to date on your progress.

I wonder...you can phase a pair of speakers with a 9v battery. You can hear the speaker suck in (pitch rises at end) or push out (pitch drops). Couldn't you just point the pickups at each other very close, face to face, and, if out of phase, they should attract each other, shouldn't they? And in phase they should repel, unless you want your middle P/U to be reversed in phase from the bridge and neck...I get this stuff mixed up.

Hey yanktar, your right. A cool trick to used for single coil pickups is this: If you take two neck pickups that are wound normally, and put the tops facing each other, they will repel each other. Like wise, if you have two reverse wound pickups and put them "top to top" they will repel each other. If you have a neck pickup (wound normal) and put it "top to top" with a middle pickup (reverse wound) they stick together. I have an old neck pickup sitting under my bench that I know is standard wound. I just grab it and put it "top to top" with the other single coils I am working with and know right away if they are reverse or standard wound. Even Lace Sensors can come reverse wound.

Ok, I am back from a trip overseas. I planning popping in the Seymour Duncan 1/4 Pounder bridge pickup, and also am considering using a Lee Jackson Potz for the first tone control. Have any of you used Lee Jackson's Potz??? Like Cream Compressor or a Mr Fuzzy???

Here is the hype:

"Remember the days when you got a pedal, that when you plugged it in it made you want to play for hours...Meet Mr Fuzzzy™The first thing I thought when I plugged into Mr Fuzzzy™ was, man it is fun to play guitar. For years I have been working on a design to allow you to have your favorite "Classic" Fuzz Sound and with more features then a standard Fuzz pedal. Mr Fuzzzy™ was designed with the idea of being as transparent as possible, to not overly change the original sound as it comes out of the instrument. I worked for years on such a design, and have developed a circuit that doesn’t degrade the original sound, Mr Fuzzzy™ enhances it with more Clarity and Definition., It can Clean up to a Sparkling Clean Sound by turning the volume of your guitar down. Mr Fuzzzy™ will enhance your great Rhythm sound without dropping out all your Low End. Get ready for Chocolately Luscious Solo's, and endless possibilities.

"Oh Yeah and for the Good part.

"Mr Fuzzzy™ is completely discrete Germanium Transistors, with True Bypass. And the Touch control, sets the sensitivity with your playing style. This allows you to tweak your sound for what ever Guitar or Playing style. is Hand Made with the Finest Vintage Components."

Well, Mounted up the new Seymour Duncan 1/4 Pounder bridge pickup in place of the Seymour Duncan Twang Banger. More power for sure. I will post some picts maybe later tonight or tomorrow! If this does not cut it then off to get a Hot Rails of some sort!

Last night I popped in the replacement pickup on my Stratotelecaster. The Seymour Duncan Twang Banger was just not able to keep up with the more powerful SD Little 59 humbucker and the DiMarzio (DP171) Blue Velvet in the middle. While it would be a great pickup to match with two vintage pickups, like 57 Reissues or maybe even a set of TX specials, but the power of the two I selected just makes this pickup a little weak. The Twang Banger lives up to the twang and does have some nice tele sounds but it is just not a match on this guitar's setup

Image

I popped open the hood and as you can tell the guitar has already seen some playing. Man does this guitar play sweet. Very low action all the way down the board with no fretting out.

Image
Image

Here is the guts as you can see below. The second picture shows the new Little 59 in place. Please also note the strange brown cap on the first tone control:

Yes that weird brown cap. Ummmm.... This was one of the other problem this guitar had. I thought it was a standard .22 cap when i built the guitar but when I played it the tone control did little of anything and just slightly shaped the tone. It was very subtle. Now I need some help from you cap experts out there. So I took it off and got out a magnifying glass. It says: .0023M on the back. Do any of you know what this is. And it was made in Mexico! ummmm again.

I like old caps so I dug out a few other ones. Ah I have a YF503 on the left and a 473 on the right. I do not have a clue where I got these or what they would do to a tone control. There are few other oddball ones kicking around there too. I decided to go with a standard .22 cap as used on most Fender guitars.

Anyhow I buttoned up the guitar and the looks of the newly installed Seymour Duncan Little 59 PAF is really nice. Power enough to keep up. It has a lot of bite using the 10 position on the TBX and one can get a little fatter sound on the 5 position. Keeps up well with the others and provides some nice Strat quack in switch position #2. The lower mini-switch simply turns on the bridge pickup when you are using the neck pickup giving you a neck + bridge. If you go to switch position #4 you get neck + middle + bridge. Nice trick. Upper mini-switch cuts off 1/2 of the coils on the neck humbucker for a bit thinner single coil sound.

Overall, this guitar is one of the nicer playing guitars I have. With the flat radius of the neck, the way the strings lay down and the nice feel of the Strat body, it is a wonderful feeling, sounding and playing instrument. When I play Teles, after a while the top edge digs into my body (unless playing a beveled DX Tele)

And the SUN IS SHINING here today!

It is ripp'in farts left and right....... Do not think I have seen a creature like this before. The little 59 in the neck is really nice for blue and jazzy stuff (metal if your into it) The middle pickup (DiMarzo Blue Velvet) has a nice tone of it's own. I use it quite often as it has good bottom end yes some bite. Great feeling, and that is important, for old farts. Oldfartspartsacaster...

Wow! BIG difference between a .22 cap and a .0023 cap! Not surprised. I'll bet the tone control works a LOT better now! Beautiful workmanship on your part.

Well when it was all said and done, I played this for the summer and then ended up tearing it down and moved on to new creations! These 62 Tele necks are really sweet. I will miss this odd duck!!!!
