Thanks you guys for the kind comments. It has been fun building this. What surprises me is the fact this plays so well. I barely had to do anything for the set-up. I adjusted 3 of the bridge saddle heights and the intonation a bit and that was it. The strings lay low all the way down. I was just now out giving it a few more rounds through two amps at the same time through a Boss ME-50 — using a 1970s Fender Bassman (AB165 head) with matching 1970s 2 x 15 Bassman cab and a Vintage Club 50 with 1 x 15. Loads of fun.The feel of the neck on this body is unique. The flatter 7.25 radius and the ease of getting up into the higher scales makes if have a great feel.

Must sound nice pumping through those two cabs!

Again, a fine piece of craftsmanship.

Just out of curiosity, X, how many hours did you invest in this all told? Seems like it went by pretty quickly on here, anyway.

Good question....really, nut much. The spot repair was fast, but the drying time eats away a couple days, mostly because of work and cold weather. But the nice thing about spot repairs, I could do it in my guitar room while a complete refinish would of had to be done in my big shop area. Maybe altogether, 6 hours total, I am thinking.... Wiring can take time... :?

Funny I was just thinking about you! I just set up some nice (older) Bose speakers in the guitar room and was taking in a little Pat Metheny. These suspend from the ceiling about 12 inches down, then 12" from the back wall and 12" from the side wall. They were designed to use the corners of the room as one big speaker....I can't tell where the sound is really coming from when I close my eyes....BTW...I build this guitar as my summer jamming rig...so ya...It is waiting for you!

I am seriously thinking about replacing the bridge pickup. It is too micro-phonic for me and not powerful enough to keep up with the other two. I am of the opinion when you toss the switch into the bridge positions, your ears better be ready! This has nice Tele bite and would be good with two vintage Strat pickups, but not these two powerhouses. Ummmm, what to replace the bridge pickup with???? :? :? :?

The "Stratotelecaster" looks the business! 8)

That finish repair on the bod was a Jedi-like performance mate. I've not seen that done before in such detail. 50 points to you!

What have you got kicking around to replace the bridge pup? Personally, I think some Rails would do the job...

Stonking thread mate!

Andy

BTW: Really hope you and Ceri get together on a build. The mind boggles at the potential coolness of content. :D

Hey Doc, I thought about that, one with a black cover. I do not want a stacked humbucker there because I want the quack sound in Position #2. The DiMarzio Cruiser looks interesting too....I am looking at several options. I never knew you were a vulcanologist??? :P :P (Sounds a little bit like Star Trek!) I leave Sunday for Vanuatu...I will bring back some fresh pictures!

Been watching volcanoes since I was a young fart. Mom bought me Thomas Jaggar's book "Volcanoes Declare War" somewhere around the age of 7. Whose Jaggar?? HVO on Kilauea is named after him. "Google" I got to see his old lab 8 years ago when I visited the park, a 50 year old item on my 'bucketlist' completed. I came to learn that I was sleeping over it, in Volcano House, presently closed for repairs. Looking forward to the new pics and how that bridge pup turns out.

Thanks.

Well, I picked up anew bridge pickup for this Stratotelecaster....a Seymour Duncan SSL-4 Quarter-Pound Flat Strat Pickup, RWRP which has more than twice the power of a traditional single-coil. The Twangbanger is a nice pickup but just can't keep up with the other two. I leave tomorrow for a trip and when I get back in two weeks the new pickup will be put in and some testing will be done. I will post a few picts.
