I'm going to get my boyfriend a srtat for his birthday. I want it to be a surprise, but should he play it first? And what about color? He is a professional player and plays Gibsons, but has been talking about a strat for a while. How should I handle this. Get him one, in the color I think he will like and surprise him, or take him to our local shop and tell him to pick one out? Does Fender have gift cards?

I don't believe Fender has gift cards, but many of the major guitar retailers do. I think the best way to go about this is to tell him you've got a suprise for him and drive him to the Guitar Center. Walk to the strat wall and tell him to pick one and Happy Birthday! This way you get to share in the fun and he gets to pick the best one for him. Believe me, he'll be very very happy about all of it.

Sorry, I'm entirely too jelous to respond to this thread.

Actually, if you can find out what his Favorite Strat model is or what kind of neck and Pick ups he likes (on the sly), he'd likley be happy with the color you choose. It'll remind him of you. Fender Necks are lettered C, D, Modern-C, V, Deep-V, ect. I'd even go out on a Limb and say Just about anybody that plays would be happy with an American Deluxe Stratocaster

There are a few Lady Palyers that frequent the forum, I bet they have good advice on the subject.

Definetly let him pick out his own. I went wo guitar center and asked for a specific guitar for Christmas, but they got me a different one of the same model and the A string buzzed :? and they sold the floor model I did like, BUT when we took it back they let me get the sonic blue color which wasn't on sale :)
