I still have the SPC that EMG sent me. I returned the one I bought for refund. So I ordered a couple 50k pots and am gonna install them with the SPC. If it works, then I'm gonna call mr. tech at EMG and let him know what it takes to fix it. Maybe they'll change their recommendations as far as the pots to use. Yeah I know EMG active pickups call for 25K pots, but their passive pickups call for regular ole 250's or 500's. They also need to let people know that adding an SPC changes the whole setup to active, whcih they told me it doesnt, and that it simply adds an active mid boost. Seems like they dont really know what their own products can do or what they need. I'll never use EMG pickups. Never have liked how they sound, but some of the little goodies they have, the Afterburner, the PA 2, SPC, that kinda stuff could be killer. I've used a PA 2 before and it was awesome. Used it til the switch broke after about 5 years. But hey, thanks for all the opinions folks. I'm gonna try the 50k and see what it does.

well I put a 50k pot in it and soounded like a dream. I emailed EMG and told them.... the tech I had talked to emailed me back and said that the problemwas because of a component eliminated on the circuit by his boss. the same boss that told me they'd work with any value pot and the same boss that told me the unit I had and that they'd sent me was fine. said they shipped over 350 faulty units before they caught it. Now is that a crock of $@!& or what?!!? I HAD one of the so called defective units, and it made that howling noise with a 250K ohm volume pot. I put a 50k in there and besides the noise that the texas specials already made, no howl at all. Worked just GREAT. The techs at EMG obviously dont know $@!& from shine-ola about their own products. I think its all funny.
