I'm terribly sorry, but I searched and searched and could not find the threads. I'm old, burnt out, and medicated. I am going to build a strat copy and need info. In particular, I was looking for Sir Ceri's tremolo picks. I bought a two piece ash body, and I am thinking about ordering a boatneck contour neck from Warmoth. Any comments? I ordered some cs-69s. So that's about it. Thanks.

Hi GTG,

Here is a collection of lots of build thread links, courtesy of The_Nutter. Each post has a link to a different build thread.

Edit:
same link that Kong already posted, sorry.

Hi GTG: if it's just the bridge pics you're after let me save you the search. On the Burnt Strat I used a Wilkinson VS401. It is the one on the top/right in these pics, seen alongside the older Wilkinson VS50 MkII on the bottom/left:

And here is a comparison between the posts and bushings for those two bridges. This time the VS401 parts are on the left; you can see that the newer model has the extra central screws to the post which allow it to be locked firmly to the exact chosen height setting - not vital, but a nice extra detail:

Image

Also, good features of both those bridges are a little grub screw that allows you to control the exact stiffness with which the trem arm turns in it's hole, so you can have it fall-away loose or stay-firmly-in-place tight, or somewhere between (my choice). Also, both bridges have the same Wilkinson saddles which lock in place both heightwise and for intonation, which makes the whole system as rigid as can be for ultimate transfer of string vibration to the block. Which can't be bad!

Many top makers have been using the VS50 and VS100 bridges for a long time, including the likes of James Tyler, Martyn Booth and others. And now we're starting to see the newer VS401 (above) appearing on top-end guitars, not least Trev Wilkinson's own Green Label Fret-King models.

None of which makes it the "best" bridge. But I'm here to say it's pretty good!

As mentioned, the older bridge above is a VS50; save a couple of details (particularly the trem posts) it is pretty much the same as the VS100 which I used on my Black Strat project:

Alternatively, if it was a six-screw bridge you were remembering then on the Pale Blue Strat I used a top-of-their-line Gotoh "vintage" trem, model GE101TS:

That one has the full sized steel block and does a very nice job. Or any of the previously mentioned Wilkinson bridges are also available in six-screw versions.

'Bout everything I can think of to say about bridges at this time. Any use?

Anyway. A couple of those bridges in action:

Very useful, thank you. I saw some Wilkinson/Gotoh trems on Stew Mac I believe, and thought they looked familiar. I will study your thread. Already saw the part about drilling the big hole with a smaller one in the bottom. That is probably a hair saver. Thanks again. G

Dammit, Impulse7. No thread hijacking for purposes of brown nosing. It's unheard of.

I've been quietly waiting all this time for someone to point out that the strings look very high. Just look at that bottom E. I don't think I bothered to set it up before taking the pics. Just threw it together and started snapping!

Nah, doesn't look too bad at all. Too busy gawking at the lovely shine you've captured in that pic. Guitars are bloody hard to photograph well, something you have cracked here Mr C.

At that point in the thread people were excitedly asking; "how does it sound?" I was secretly thinking to myself; "I have no idea - I haven't even soldered up the output jack yet...!"

Hey-ho, build threads. It's a bonny life if you don't weaken. 8)
