I posted the other day that I bought and E-series 84-87 strat. Here's the post with pics. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=51312

I did some searching and saw some folks here said the electronics are junk(pots/switch). I was playing mine and I'm not crazy about the tone, a bit thin to me. It is also very trebly and the tone controls do not seem to have much effect on the sound when I roll them down. I was hoping some would share their thoughts on the pickups. Are they any good? I plan on putting in new pots/cap/switch, and may swap out the pickups for some "Texas Wound" units.

Other than the pickups/electronics, the thing feels amazing. The body on this thing is awesome, very crisp routing and neck/body fit is really nice and snug. I'm falling in love with the Candy Apple. I can see why some guys are crazy about these guitars, but some of the prices I've seen on Ebay for them seem pretty high.

I need to have the bridge re-tapped as one of the fine-tuners is stripped. I found a guy on the web who will tap all six and supply the new fine-tuners for $45 plus return shipping. I also have to fabricate one of the square washers on the string lock. The nut was poorly fitted, someone put a flat bottomed nut into the radiused slot. I did some shaping by hand with a file and it is much better, but I may have a proffessional install a nut for me when I get the rest squared away.

The string lock makes making truss-rod adjustments a little harder than they should be. I'll need to cut a 5mm truss-rod wrench so I can get it in the slot when the string lock is installed. After all the upgrades I'll have under $300 into this guitar which I'm pretty pleased about.

I'll definitely post more pics and hopefully a sound clip when it is back to 100%.
