Ok I just got a used 2009 MIM stat. Now i noticed that the small e string is dead on the 7th fret. Is there an easy way to fix this? Could it be the string? I am not a guitar tech and dont want to mess up the guitar. Help is much appreciated. Thank you.

If it hasn't been done already, you should do a complete setup on the guitar using this as a guide:

http://www.fender.com/support/articles/ ... etup-guide

It's not that hard and something that you should learn to do yourself.

+1

It's also possible that the fret was incorrectly crowned from the factory or damaged by a previous owner. In that case, I'd be inclined to let a competent luthier examine the instrument for a definitive diagnosis and repair.

might need a fret leveling and recrown.

If the problem is only on the 7th fret, then either the 7th fret is too low or the 8th fret is too high. You could have a spot level done, or you could just pay to have a good fret leveling of the entire board, with the frets getting recrowned and polished too! Good fret work makes all the difference, and the condition of the frets and neck determines how low of an action you can get away with without buzzing! Or, if you are cheap, you could just raise the string height until the buzzing goes away or is no longer a bother.........but if the problem is real bad, your string height would be unacceptable and uncomfortable.

Just the one string?

7th fret is near center of the arc of the fretboard. Just try raising the action on those 2 strings half a turn.

Otherwise it's a low fret.

Could also mean insufficient relief (as measured at the 8th fret) which is why I suggested a complete set up. Just because a "tech" did a setup on the guitar doesn't mean it was done right. OP also said the action was "really low".
