Hey guys I'm in the market for a Strat so I happened upon this one:

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/msg/2224749882.html

I was wondering if this was a good deal? Are these '62 Reissues made in America? Is there anything I need to look for when buying a Strat to check for it's authenticity? Is it even possible to scam a Mexican Strat into looking American? Sorry I'm pretty new to this whole buying high-end gear thing. Hope you guys can help out a fellow guitarist. Thanks.

I think they're great. I bought mine in 88 or 89 and it went for $600 or $650. It looks a lot like that one. I think $875 for it is pretty good from what I've heard about the prices now. They're US made. The later ones like the one you posted had the more correct fret marker spacings at the 12th

american vintages are made in america. I have a 62 reissue and its a great guitar. if its real and in good condition it seems like the right price.

AVRI 62 Strats are great guitars. I've had mine for about 3 years (Olympic White - Mint Green pickguard - Rosewood fret board). Similar to the AVRI 57 Strat. The ad looks like a good deal. Also, always negotiate on price. It's a buyer's market! Good luck.
