Could you please give me some advice. I have just purchased a new Fender American standard strat, when I set the selector switch to bridge and middle pick up the B string looses a little bit of volume and the same applies when set on neck and middle is this normal?

It's quite possible that the string itself is dead,it's not uncommon for new strings to have one or even more dead ones in a set. Also you could check to see if the string is higher than the others at the bridge or if the nut slot for the B string is cut low enough.I'd check out all these things before I brought it back for a check up under warranty.

Hi Simo here again, chequed out your suggestions and have had no joy, I contacted the retailer and they say it is part of the tonation that is being filtered out of the B string in those settings. I will ask the person who I am taking lessons from to take a look at it, he has over forty years experience with guitars and might have an answer probably advise me to take it back. Still open for any other suggestions thou.

I don't buy the retailers explanation because if that were the case the same thing would be happening in all Strats equipped with the same pickups that yours is and people would be constantly returning guitars because of it ,so I don't believe that's the case.

Slap a new set of strings on and see if problem continues.

Cheers

Hi Simo here, sorry I haven't posted an update on the guitar until now but I returned the guitar to the shop, they tested it and sent it back to Fender. Fender replaced the middle pickup and set the guitar up again. So its absolutely fine now just need to learn how to play it. Thanks for all the suggestions and the welcome from The Nutter.
