I found a fantastic deal on a 60th Anniversary USA Deluxe Strat but the truss rod is maxed out. Intonation and action are great but nowhere left to go if it needs adjustment. I will be honest, I don't typically mess with the truss rod on my electrics so I'm not entirely sure how often you guys adjust yours. The guitar is in perfect shape beyond this issue. Just curious if this should be a deal breaker.

Well, I suppose you could always have a pro put a new truss rod (I think that's possible), or replace the neck entirely. If it were me, I'd stay away from it. There are thousands of great guitars out there. Keep looking.

If the truss rod is maxed out and I might add that this is pretty much unheard of on American Deluxe Strats, I can only presume that the guitar in question has truly had its fair share of abuse. If it were me, I'd pass.

If the truss rod is maxxed out there must have been a lot of stress put on it at some time or another to have needed that done.I'd give that guitar a wide berth as if you bought it and changed the string gauge or if the acton needed to be changed again you may have no room for adjustment.

How in the world does a truss rod get maxed out? Did it stretch? How?

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I am honestly not sure. The action and intonation is fine, but the Guitar Center tech said that when they tried to adjust it, he couldn't turn it anymore and it was "maxed out".

"A Guitar Center Tech"; isn't this a paradox?

LOL. I assumed that this would be said by someone. My hope is that the truss rod isn't really hosed. I could get the guitar for under $600 and it looks brand new outside of the truss rod issue. I've always been a fan of the 60th Anniversary strats.

Well, it seems that in spite of our warnings you've pretty much made up your mind which leads me to a question: Why did you ask in the first place?

I would think that, "Caveat emptor" applies in the strongest terms here.

um yeah...... what hes asking. how?
you get a 30 warranty right? buy it and take it to a real guitar tech
and see what he says.

Contrary to popular belief, any warranty only applies to the original owner. If the rod is a mess, he's not going to be covered for it. The fact that GC owned up to it makes me all the more dubious about this particular instrument.

After sleeping on it, I don't think I am going to pull the trigger.

A MOST wise decision.

In my experience with Fender's with the bi-flex rod, they are basically set and forget....I think I adjusted mine when I first got each guitar, but haven't touched them since and it has been 10 years now :) As long as nothing changes ( string gauge or humidity ) too much, they are incredibly stable. :) Sometimes if you loosen the rod and clamp the neck in the proper relief or straightness that you need, then adjust the rod to take up the slack, it will usually hold fine on the bi-flex rods. If the price is were sweetened a little more, I could see buying this guitar, but like stated above, there are too many good guitars out there to chance buying a monkey...........

agreed. i would use that info that was released to you by mistake im sure, as bargining chips. its pretty much on its last leg neck adjustment wise according to them anyways.
there is your bargin power right there.
it in their court after that. as ive read the same thing the poster above just stated as well. i think it was a erlewine comment actually.
with the ball in their court they have to act quick. sale the guitar for less and make something on it now, or lose the sale altogether. dont get your hopes up or become emotionally attached to this deal. its a 50/50 shot but worth taking a stab at i bet.
