I agree with you a 100%, I got my EC Strat last month and it's all I expected and more. It took a few times to get accustomed to, as I have 08 Les Paul too. But man I just love it now. Glad I have it in my collection. Barry"O"(June,2011)="curtisjamesmusic"]Ive been playing on a Eric Clapton strat for a little bit now and as an individual artist have always enjoyed playing Fenders guitars that are....lets say a little unique in some way. Chipped up, fine.....swapped pickups,,,,,,sure.....mix and matched neck to bodies....thats cool. But I recently broke my customary mold and picked up a Clapton artist series at G.C., and really dug it. So, found a N.O.S. on the net poped the $ and bought it. Am I guilty for loving this electronic boost thing!? Have I completely left the world of traditional, (old) world, wood tone, time tested principles of guitar orthodox? Stupid question I know... for some. But with the boost, and bold tones that come from this monster.... blow me away. I even like the diversity from the Tbx tone control. The noiseless pickups are super quiet. The neck is perfect for my hand and even changed the way I feel about my "non-clapton-neck"-guitars. So......am I alone here? How do you guys feel about this guitar. I understand theyre super popular. So, chime in....you guys are cool with tons of ideas. Thanks![/quote]

I am like OP in that I prefer the "traditional" stuff (the only guitars I want to buy are two-tone sunburst 50s Strats) but I have a black EC Strat as well. Its V-neck is incredibly comfortable and the TBX and Mid-boost are hidden features only you have to know about. From the outside, it's a perfectly traditional guitar. I just wish the signature were on the reverse of the headstock.

Yo Barry O!! Welcome to the Forums. If you do a Forums Search on Eric Clapton Stratocaster you'll find all the chiming in which has gone down during the past 4 years [anniversary coming up], and there's been a helluva lot writ. There's a very avid group of Clapton Strat devotees on this Forum who will give you no argument.

I have a 1989 strat plus that is also pewter. The strat plus does not have the mid boost circuit. Is there a way to duplicate the sound of the mid boost by using a pedal?

If that isn't enough, you can take the word of the numerous celebrities who use/have used/have recorded with the EC Strat. Pete Townsend, Robbie Robertson, Joe Walsh, Buddy Guy, and Glenn Tilbrook (Squeeze) are just some of the folks I've seen recently on Palladia performing with the Artist Series EC Strat.

I suppose any overdrive pedal will do it. e.g. TS-9, Rat, or even the Boss Crossroads Pedal. You can also buy the kit from Fender and install it.

So does Clapton just use the mid boost and no overdrive pedal? Or does he use both?

I've only had mine a couple months but it quickly took over the number one spot in my arsenal.

Eric's gear preferences have changed over the years but it appears that his guitar's signal chain lacks an OD pedal. His guitar does not have a TBX, but rather a standard tone pot. You might check out "Where's Eric' and see what's current in his backline. He generally has one foot controller on stage in addition to the whawha pedal. His EQ seems to be a big secret. A lot appears to go through the main sound board as opposed to the stage. Stay tuneds. There' more out there which is likely to contribute to your question.

Thanks ZZDoc - I was just wondering can I get the same types of sounds that the EC strat gets, using my strat plus and an OD pedal. The original EC strat had 3 gold lace sensors like my plus but the EC added the battery operated mid boost circuit. It looks like I will be just fine using myTS9 with my plus.
