I posted elsewhere about some issues I was having with this guitar. The issues have been fixed, but I'm a bit puzzled by the spec. I can't find this spec anywhere on the Fender site, or elsewhere for that matter. Guitar was purchased new from a dealer in Johannesburg, South Africa in Dec 2010. I just want to make certain that the guitar is what I think it is. Here are specs and pics:

Serial DZ9344974

HSS N3 pickups, S1 switching, passing lane switch, (looks like) Ash body, Tobacco Burst, two point trem, LSR nut rollers, staggered locking tuners, mother of pearl scratchplate and trem cover, rosewood fingerboard.

Most of this looks like stock Am Dlx HSS, except for the MOP scratchplate, Ash body, Tobacco burst finish.

Any help ID-ing the guitar would be appreciated.

First off nice Strat!

Could it be a special order for your dealer since you purchased it new? Also since it has a 2009 serial number (DZ9XXXXXX) it is one of the first ones from the factory - Fender did a run of 2010-spec guitars at the end of 2009 so they could fill orders as soon as they were introduced in March 2010 - it could have slightly different specs that are no longer available and therefore no longer on the Fender website.

My suggestion would be to go ahead and email Fender consumer relations the serial number and see what they come up with.

I don't doubt it's real, it may be fairly rare. When I saw your posting in the other thread I looked in the 2011 catalog and didn't see it. I may have very well ordered that guitar if it had been in the catalog. As was stated, it may have been part of a small run of Ash HSS's and then was dropped by the bean counters. Beautiful guitar either way. I'd call it a keeper.

So I contacted Fender consumer relations, as suggested and explained the issue in detail.

I got back:

Andy,

This is all the info we have.

Model Name: American Deluxe Stratocaster® HSS
Model Number: 011-9100-(Color #) and 011-9102-(Color #)
Series: American Deluxe Series
Body: Select Alder
Neck: Maple, Modern “C” Shape,
(Satin Urethane Finish)
Fingerboard: Rosewood (P/N 011-9100) or Maple (P/N 011-9102), 9.5” to 14” Compound Radius (241 mm to 355.6 mm)
No. of Frets: 22 Medium Jumbo Frets
Scale Length: 25.5” (648 mm)
Width @ Nut: 1.6875” (43 mm)
Hardware: Chrome
Machine Heads: Fender® Deluxe Staggered Cast/Sealed Locking Tuning Machines
Bridge: Fender Deluxe 2-Point Synchronized Tremolo with Pop in Arm
Pickguard: 3-Ply Mint Green on (700), (770),
4-Ply Brown Shell on (720, 723),
4-Ply Black on (759)

And so on... Reeling off the standard spec for the 2010 HSS deluxe.

Not a word relating to the serial I had sent or the description.

Is this usual fare from consumer relations? This is my first experience with them.

A

Fender produced a Deluxe Ash Strat with the HSS pickup layout between 1998 and 2003. Therefore Deluxe Ash Strats are available in an SSS format since 2004.

Only the alder-bodied models are available with the Atomic humbucker in the bridge.

This deluxe ash HSS is supposedly a Factory Special Run (FSR) and only few of these guitars were shipped with the "mini-Floyd" bridge option, though I'm not as 100% certain.

That is a beautiful guitar .... excellent burst!

Other than the MOP it all looks totally legit to me. My 2010 ash has a DZ9 number as well.

This might qualify as a 2009 1/2 ...
