I saw a SRV replacement neck that I am thinking of buying online. I have a MIM strat which has a modern C neck and it is too thin for my very large hands and causes my hands to tire quickly sometimes. I have a few questions. Will the SRV replacement neck be the same size as a new or stock SRV neck? Will a SRV replacement neck fit on my Mexican stratocaster or will the parts not match up since the new neck will be bigger and its american( not sure since its a replacement neck). It would also come without tuners so I was hoping someone had any info on what it would cost to get new ones put on? If it costs too much I might be better off buying a kenny wayne shepherd neck off ebay since I believe they are the same size necks and the KWS is mexican. Any replies are appreciated.

As long as everything is Fender it will fit, screw holes and all. I have put American stuff on MIM stuff before and it fit perfectly into the neck pocket and screw holes. You will need to do a set up most likely though. The genuine SRV necks are quite fat and that is not a factor in fitting it to a body like, say your old MIM neck that is thin. It will all fit right unless the replacement neck is not Fender. If it is not a Fender neck, all bets are off.

As for tuners, you can get Kluson type off the internet for around $50. Less if you are patient and a good shopper. The SRV tuners are the vintage Kluson style, so the newer ones that are out wont fit unless you do some modifications to the holes. I wouldn't recommend it myself, I would stick with the Klusons, but to each his own.

Those are two different neck profiles,
The SRV is a thick oval shape
The KWS is a thick C shape

You may be more in tune with a soft V medium shape, I would look for one of the vintage RI necks, you will be paying a premium for the name SRV or KWS.
Excuse me but I do not see the justification of paying a lot of money for something off E-Bay when a stock neck that fits your criteria will be just as good.

Also how much are you playing :?: I assume from your post that you are either getting back into playing after a long layoff or that you have not been playing for very long :?: Are you playing the guitar at a comfortable level when either sitting or standing ( never mind what looks cool ) if you are at all twisted or off balance or/and your hand is forcing your wrist to bend excessively because of the guitar being too low, then your position needs adjustment, undue strain at your wrist joint will cause fatigue in your hand. also when your hand is around the neck, your fingers which are being used for pressing down a note, should only be pressing down to fret the note wether it is a single note or a series of notes forming a chord. The rest of your hand should be relaxed, not tense.
If you still have to pressure heavily then perhaps you are using too heavy of a string gauge and/or the action needs adjustment.

I'm not at all sold on the SRV method/morphology for any one but SRV. SRV had very strong hands, played constantly, which is the very big difference between a touring pro and amateurs and overtime needed to up the string thickness as well as the neck.

Before buying a neck I would go and seek out a strat with a Vintage med V neck or soft V neck, play it for a good lenght of time then decide if that shape fits your criteria.

As for the tuners, vintage gotoh's will drop right in, but you have to make sure at first that whichever neck you buy, what is the diameter of the tuner holes, then get the appropriate kind to fit those holes. ( go to http://www.stewmac.com ) they have all the specs on tuners as far as diameter and all.
Given a choice I would opt for modern tuners with a 16 to 1 or better an 18 to 1 ratio.
The vintage style with a 14 to 1 ratio is just never accurate enough for precise tuning unless you are referring to a truly vintage guitar.

And last but not least, the profile of the neck is irrelevant to the neck pocket/ neck fit. if the neck is a Fender it will fit right in, or if it is from a licensed Fender replacement supplier then it will also fit right in, but I would be cautious as when buying off E-bay with a predrilled neck, an undrilled neck is going to give you the best fit since it will allow you to match the screw holes in the neck to exactly fit your body, for screw depth as well as perpendicular location. There can be slight variations and the neck joint/screw/fit is the most critical in the strat's set up.

Good Luck
