I have tried searching in this forum so i hope you don't think this has been done to dinner but my guitar luthier tells me that he can definitely hear the Maple fretboards being a lot more treblely than darker woods. I can only go on my SRV and my MIM so of course it is warmer. I adore the pau ferro on the SRV, I would imagine it to be similar to rosewood in tone. My luthier explains it as in thats why all country players play maple. ie, most Tele's. On this discussion Robben Fords rosewood tele must sound different then? How much of this is noticeably true?

I have some of each, and to me the rosewood sound a lot mellower and the maple sound brighter. Could it be the pickups, different string gauges, or am I hearing a difference because I expect to? Maybe I play more aggressively on the maple so it sounds trebly and I play more jazzy on the rosewood? Just too many variables. Perhaps with similar strings and the same stock pickups an oscilloscope could record notes and a spectrum analysis made to see if there is more than just a subjective perception?

Hi ozrv,

Try a "Maple vs Rosewood" search. Here are a couple of the many links about the tone/feel differences, or the perception thereof. Many people say that the maple fret board has a brighter sound than rosewood. :)
