I use painters tape to make a protective barrier on the wood around the fret ends, and the neck should be removed to access all of the frets. But yes, this might be something that is better left to a pro.

Yeah - tape is agreat idea - me - I'm not adverse to tinkering with the setup a little. I might even be brave enough to adjust the truss rod - but i'm no where near ready for filing necks and frets. I'm aiming to get a cheap squier off of Fee-Bay at some point to tinker with and learn more, but until then my expensive strats can stay as they are or have a pro do it.

Nice work! How you did it without damaging the lacquer when the fret is so close to the wood anyway I'll never know! Even with the tape! ;-)

I took a lot of shots to get a couple of decent ones that show the fret edges well. Different times in different light for the before and after, but still the same guitar. Had I known that we had an art critic among us, I would have used a studio for the shots.

I also noticed that the frets were dirty "before" and clean "after". What the heck is going on? It like some kind of bizarro fret job effect going on.

You started out with dirty frets and sprouts. Ended up with clean frets with no sprouts. I declare shenanigans!

LOL.

And, I'm holding the neck at a different angle! What's up with that?

Funny thing, that guitar, Blacktop, was in the closet for a while, the closet has been very cold lately, and when I got it out the other day there was just a bit of fret sprout that actually disappeared as the weather warmed up. When it get's cold again, I'll probably have to file a little more.

am the owner of a Classic 50s Strat in 2003, which gives me happiness.
I play mainly Shadows, Dire Straits ...
It is very brittle lacquer body and neck level and becomes relic, but I sound level who personally more than happy.
It has a story and the guy that I buy never play because he had exchanged against his scooter in 2005, without ever touching thereafter.
Stored in a closet for a few years, start nibbling mice had the headstock, Like this, and this is that I buy a piece of bread (250 €).
After many adjustments, truss-road, action (7.25), intonation, it always surprises the guy who, in view of "Made in Mexico", ask me what I change on it.
I believe to be a lucky and Mexican production, unlike the production Us, inconsistent but maybe not!

The discussion about the fret ends and humidity brought back memories of Mexico and high school. The Summer of my senior year a few of us went to Mexico from Denver and each of us bought a $20 acoustic guitar. They looked great and played just fine to us. This was 1964. A few months later our guitars were cracked and useless and in the trash. We blamed it entirely on getting screwed buying cheap Mexican guitars. None of us were smart enough to realize we lived in the high desert plains where the humidity would sometimes be in the single digits and that might had something to do with it.

Thank you Shimmilou but it is not exceptional if not this color OL aged, Fender product a few months depending.
The coating cracks on the body, the strap marks his passage, and nail on the head goes!
But what his fate I clean, I measure about 5 mics, 58, 5.60 and height seems very important to adjust for a beautiful sound.
The tremolo block is made of steel, the action is very low, not easy with the 7.25 radius.
It is a Mexican, and I vouler a Classic Player 50, but when I saw this ad (not a Classic player) not very far for € 250, I wanted to go and fell in love immediately, after only 2 minutes of play!
It was like the Christmas morning or
I do not ask or was this built Strat, and this is after I registered on the forum I've seen the differences, ceramic pickups, potentiometers and condos base, while my Strat is equipped CTS U.S. U.S. selector, condo orange and vintage microphones spaced.
I try MIA second hands at a price high enough that I have not done this the Classic 50s made me.
But it is the sound that I dream, that is subjective in therm of criteria, in any case, I find my happiness and I wish a lot to experience the same.
