I went to the store with the intent on buying a MIM because that's what I could afford.
After I played 4-5 MIM's and 2-3 MIA's there was no question. I played all the Fenders on the same amp and set-up. I was sold on the MIA Special. Hell! I will have to work hard for the extra money $400.00-$500.00 more and find a way. So I did. The MIA Fender Strat Special cam home w/me.
No regrets!

I wish there was, but the brains in Detroit still believe the earth is flat and the roads are all straightaways and the temperature never dips below 65 Degree's Farenheit.

If Detroit paid attention to say... a global corp. like Fender they might get an

I submit to you: The Cadillac CTS: in Coupe, Sedan or Wagon form. Spring extra for the V version of any of the three body styles, and you get a car that destroys just about every vehicle on the road (556hp).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadillac_C ... present.29

Does ANYONE need to own a station wagon that's as fast as a mid-90's Lamborghini? No. Could I convince myself that I need to sell an organ to get one? Yes.

And the CTS just got a recall from the manufacturer.
556hp ok but I'll put an S4 or an RS4 Audi against the CTS on dry, wet or snow and the CTS will not outperform an Audi quattro shod with either Conti's or Michelin's.

I spent my childhood around two camps. FI and Rally cars in France and Drag racing stateside.
for here it was a 67 SS Camaro with a 327 which dyno'ed at over 600 hpwr.
The amount of horsepower is irrelevant if it cannot be translated to usable torque on the asphalt. That is one of the primary reasons that Audi Quattro's were banned from Roadracing, the excuse being it was an unfair advantage.
There is also the last few years at the 24 hr of LeMans, I do not recall Cadillac with much of a dignified showing.
The CTS's aren't bad, they just need better engineering, not to mention that that body styling is so reminiscent of Japanese Auto Styling, as if the designers spent too much of their childhoods watching Mecha-Godzilla flics.

Yeah, they were recalled for being AWESOME. That, and I guess some bolts fall off or something or other. All in all, recalls don't scare me, because it means they did the math of Prob(Incident) x LawsuitCosts(Incident) x CarsSold < Recall(CarsSold). So far my Chevy pickup has had far better quality than any German car I've owned.

Yeah, the styling is the only thing I don't like. The car needs tail fins and/or fender skirts, possibly a vinyl top. I might be somewhat crazy, but I would kill for a car that looks like a Grandpa mobile but has >500hp and 0-60 time below 5.5sec.

Are we really having this discussion again? I have a MIM and love it as well.....it's been a true pleasure to play with......I will one day get an American made and that will be the Candy Green Eric Clapton Model...if I am going to go there I might as well go all the way....there will always be opinions on both models one way or the other...there is nothing we can do about it........plug in and play on with whatever you own......

i have played mexicans and american fenders and i have to say mexican fenders are a great buy for the money. I do think though that american fenders though have slightly better but still you cant go wrong with a mexican i think.

I think the stigma around mexican fender is that they were truly bad a decade ago.

also thank you for your service

Being from Canada pretty much everything is an import thanks to Nafta..

When I was a kid I'd look at catalogues from Fender, Gibson & I would spend hours looking at my dad's Chet Atkins lp covers for his Gretsch guitars.

Now at 60 & just retired, gigging is no longer an option (only because I can't find any musicians my age or close to it to play with) but if I were a gigging player I would have MIA or Gibson mainly because of the tradition of these companies (if I buy tomato soup it has to be Campbell's) I drive GMC it's trad & what I grew up dreaming of having I always wanted a Schwinn bike but they were not avail in Canada (you get my drift).

So to me MIM & Epiphones are what makes the most sense in my situation. I do also have my 1974 4001 Ricky bass & re-issue 6122-1962 Gretsch.

I look at it this way, by purchasing MIM or Epi I am still contributing to a couple of great American companies as all the $$ ends up in the same well.

I also think by consumers purchasing the MIM or Epi's gives Fender & Gibson more (quicker) cash flow to invest in better quality, new products, & employment all round.

Like the op says, we should all get along, after all we are blessed with a means to express our emotions through our music.. :D

I have both MIM and MIA Strats and Teles. I don't care where they are made! They are Fenders that is what matters to me. I can afford any Fender I want but I buy the one that sounds and plays best for me! My latest was a 2010 MIM Strat in LPB with the best Maple neck I have ever had the joy of playing on! In the end that is what really matters if the particular guitar speaks to you!
ABS :D

My MIM and MIA strats get along just fine :D

Sure there are differences. Oddly enough I got the MIA Clapton first then got a MIM to mod a bit. Both sound good but I have to give the MIA an edge. I'm not knocking MIM though I practice more on that one.

Plus MIM and MIA share very little of the same components. For example, just take alook at the many pics and videos of recent Fender factory tours and you'll see 5 or more piece bodies used for MIM Std while the typical MIA Std is 3 pieces.

From a 2006 tour of the Mexican factory. Multipiece/veneered Standard bodies:

With all due respect to MIMs, you can buy a high quality used MIA Strat for $700. That would be my preference.

First off, thank you for your service.

I have a couple MIA Strats, and a couple MIM ones. All are a joy to play. The thing with Fender to me anyway is that the higher the price line, the less guitars you need to try to find a truly superb example. I am just as happy with my MIMs as I am my MIA Strats, and I've been a Fender guy for 25 years.

I own both MIA and MIM guitars. A well manufactured guitar is money well spent, regardless of country or manufacturer. I do not buy a guitar unless it is the one that calls to me.
