I just instaled a new pickguard and it occurred to me that theres no aluminium foil on the inside.

Does the "shielding foil" have any purpose?

should I put something on the back of my new pickguard too then?

The copper shielding is to reduce hum and other interference. It's pretty important.

Don't EVER use aluminium foil for shielding. Always use copper or steel. Copper shielding tape will work on a pickguard like yours just fine. To get some go to the Stewert MacDonald website at stewmac.com. Won't be too hard to find and it's notr that expensive.

Copper shielding on your pickguard will help reduce noise created by the electronics in your guitar, it's just a standard measure yu should take to make sure your guitar sounds as good as possible.

So I just tape it on the whole back side of my pickguard?

Cause on my original one, theres only foil where the knobs are...

And will it make a lot of difference if I dont?

You can skip all that mess. I'm using an Axeguard. The days of foil are over...

Yeah for like $55 though?

Settle for the tape I told you about. It has adhesive glue on the back. It's like covering the controls part of your pickguard with duct tape. It's easy. Just make sure it's nice and flat and you can sheild your guitar just fine. And you'll even have enough for other projects. Definately the easier route.

Easier? Clearly you don't understand what you were looking at. It's not a pickguard, but a different product that replaces it, and adds new function above the old plastic pickguard.

It's a lot easier then moving all the electronics onto a $55 pickguard. At least in my book. I don't see any new function other then slightly better shielding. The copper tape and proper grounding does just fine for a whole lot cheaper and much less work involved.

Yeah, and while yer at it, why don't you use the excess tape to sheild the4 control cavities if that hasn't been done yet. Just a thought.

:!: WAIT hold up. Just realized what you're talking about. Don't cover the ENTIRE pickguard with tape, just where the controls are. Very sorry for the misunderstanding, I hope you haven't done it already.

Easy, big feller, we all understood it perfectly. You bought one, so it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. And yes, it's a pickguard. A highly shielded, 55-dollar pickguard.

This quote from the website kills me.

"It's been twenty-five years since the music industry has witnessed such a revolutionary new product. "

Golly. I can think of some pretty revolutionary music products in the past 25 years. But, hey, I guess this one's the most-est, huh? I mean... they couldn't say it if it wasn't true...
