I need to repair the mounting insert stud holes for a Strat 2 pt tremelo. It has had one repair that I did with some small wood shims and Titebond. It held for about a week, but I need a better solution. It is a 2006 Squier Standard Strat HH body, so it is not a vintage body, but it is pretty nice, with a cool finish. I would prefer to fix the trem problem rather than trash the body. ImageImage

Wow,
If you decide to take on the task yourself, it would require precision routing and drilling with the appropriate tools. Or you can take it to a Luthier for pricing.

But if you decide to dump it, try a hack job repair before you let it go.
You may need to cut/rout out the entire area of where the Tremolo is located (about 1/3' around both trem holes and install/glue a hard wood block in it's place assuring you have the same hole as the tremolo cavity. The fit must be tight with no gaps and go completely through the body. Then, properly drill in the pivot pin holes, and rout out the area for the trem springs, and try to match the finish.

A new body would be another option.

Oh, wow! I doubt just glue will fix that! If the body is basswood, I don't know if you will ever have much luck fixing this without major routing work and making a precision made fill block big enough to hold both bridge posts. But then you would have to do something finish-wise to disguise the repair some. Being a Squier, You can find bodies on eBay pretty cheap.........

Looks like it needs a 6 point bridge.

I've had this exact same problem.

Re-do the repair, then reinforce the edge of the pickup rout with a purpose cut steel plate. Screw it in place on the edge of the rout with a screw either side of the damaged wood area. You've got just enough room. You'll need to trim a little off the rout with a good sharp chisel, so that the plate restores the rout to its original size and doesn't foul the pickup. Paint the edge of the plate with a sympathetic colour and it's all but invisible

Sounds a bit Heath Robinson and probably is, but the guitar I did it on (for a friend) is still going strong after 6 years or so, and the trem bridge post hasn't budged at all.

I've converted a two point to a six point and it's pretty straightforward. If you're happy with a six point bridge it's worth considering this option.

Hi adey: am I remembering right - was yours a pale blue or surf green Strat? Did you show us photos of the problem and the repair?

If so, can you link back to that thread, please? I've tried but I'm not finding it through the "search" function...

Cheers - C

Sorry Ceri, if you've been searching.

This was several years ago and I wasn't a member of the forum then. I can't even photograph it now for you retrospectively, as I passed the guitar onto a friend. It was a Squire Standard - I wouldn't have attempted such an unlikely repair on a better quality instrument!

Ah, OK. Then it was someone else on this Forum who had exactly this issue with a pale blue or green Strat, right down to it also being on the bass side post (though I notice the other one on paisley strat's guitar, above, is not looking too clever either).

Whoever it was that time also repaired it successfully and last we heard the mend was holding good. ...But I can't find that thread!

Thanks anyway Adey - and congrats on your repair job. 8)

Cheers - C
