I can't see the american Buddy Guy artist model on Fenders 2011 pricelist. Only the polka dot model. Does anybody know if it is retired? Finn

Fender has a history of changing with the artist's needs. Pick ups on the Clapton Stat is a good example. THat or the guitar just isn't selling.

I think the USA Buddy Guy Strat will come with the same Noiseless pickups as the Clapton model.

I've heard a lot of rumours saying that Buddy has signed a deal with PRS a couple of months ago. There are tons of shots showing him playing an antique white 305 with three PRS-designed 305 single-coil pickups.

I believe the 305 will serve as a template for his own PRS signature guitar.

As far as I know Buddy only played that PRS 305 at the PRS Experience last September; I don't think he has been using it since then although Paul did give it to him - all the photos I've found of him with the PRS were from that one show.

I guess time will tell if he moves over to PRS.

Buddy played a Daphne Blue Strat during a Clapton/Winwood show at Izod Center 2 years ago.

I saw him a couple years ago in an outdoor concert here in New Orleans. I took many photos of him... he played a cream color and his signature strat. :)

I realize in today's age of playing people get connect with a particular guitar especially when they sign a deal with a particular guitar company, but the reality is that Buddy Guy has played lots of different types of guitars. He's played Fender, Gibson and Guild.

I think that Buddy Plays whatever catches his fancy that day.

The USA Buddy Guy was also available in Honey Blonde.

I guess Buddy has modded his Honey Blonde Strat by replacing the tort guard with a white parchment one. He also swapped the Lace Sensors over a set of Vintage Noiseless pickups (possibly) or Lace Holy Grails (not sure about).

You're right!

I've seen a couple of videos (it was around 1987 I guess) on YouTube showing him playing a Guild Bluesbird.

However, it's not the first time Buddy uses a PRS.

This stage shot of Ronnie Scott's show from that period shows the famed Chicago bluesman with a PRS Custom 22 while trading some blues licks with Eric Clapton.

I think a lot of times Buddy is just at a show, is invited (or decides) to join in on a jam and just borrow an available guitar for the evening - probably what happend with him playing the PRS back in 1987. Another example, on the night SRV died Buddy joined in on some jams at the end of that show but just played an EC Strat that night (I don't know if the Strat was one of Eric's personal guitars or one used by the other guitarist in ECs band at that time).

I've got a couple of late 70s/early 80s Guitar Player magazines that have Guild ads showing Buddy playing a Starfire IV (or whichever Starfire is the 335-style guitar), so he's been known to play what he gets paid to play over the years.
