Not directing the comment at anyone. I just find it bloody ridiculous that anyone with half a brain would take a recommendation as law.

Noting the comment about 10/64" being in slide territory, I just re-checked my action (I had never measured it before I read this thread, as I rely on feel alone) and yes, it's 5/32" (or 10/64") at the 6th string 17th fret. It never occurred to me that this might be particularly high and I certainly wouldn't want it any lower. I have big hands and long fingers; maybe this is a factor. But no-one else who has played my Strats (both are set up the same) has commented that the action is high. And I've played dozens of guitars that are not mine without thinking this either.

The only conclusion I can come to is that measuring string height will not give a particularly accurate indication of a guitars' action or playability. Or perhaps that I am just ham fisted and therefore impervious to action: I switch between electric, steel strung acoustic and classical guitars without needing to think about adjusting to different string tension, scale length, neck profile etc etc.

Once again, no one said anything about Fender's setup recommendation being "law" and I can assure you that I posses a full brain. Have a good life, I'm outta here.
