Hi,
I am new just looking for some help. I have been looking at Fenders guitars actually the HSS deluxe with the LSR nut. I was looking at some of Fenders more expensive guitars and they don’t have it. So my question is what are the benefits or the losses. Thanks

I'm interested in the replies you get. I have a very unscientific take on an answer. I spent the last three weeks playing every model strat and Gibson I could get my hands on to see what felt the best to me. Playing "feel" was my top concern. The Jeff Beck was the only model I didn't get to play. I played every neck contour and fret radius including some vintage ones. Every time I played an American Deluxe HSS or Mahogony Select, which also has the LSR nut, I kept going back to them because they just felt better. I was prepared to buy a more expensive model if it turned out to be the one that felt best. I know that the LSR isn't supposed to have any effect on the playability of the guitar but I decided to not fight what I was feeling and ordered an American Deluxe HSS. I also noticed on several guitars I could get an off tone at G on the low E string but not with the LSR guitars. So, I'm probably nuts but it felt right to me, so I bought it. Fender probably loves me. :o

Me too

What I have read it is supposed to help with bends. I don’t know enough and dont trust a sales rep. These guys here tell it like it is, so I am just waiting to see what they write. 8)

To tell you the truth, almost all the Strats I play have either the Wilkinsen or LSR nuts. I would not consider any other way to go IF your going to use the Tremolo. It does help the guitar stay in tune better. And it really does not effect the tone because most of the time you are fretting out the strings on the frets, so the vibrations going through the nut is minimal. IMHO.....

well i can only go on what ive read and take that for what its worth. there has been plenty said about those on this site.
most dont seem to like them down the road after they get them.
i think your limited on them if you change string sizes.
ive heard that they will effect tone if you play open chords as well.
i have heard they they can bind up as well. i personally dont see the need for them to be honest. i dont and wont own one.

If you...
Don't use trem = don't need it
Use trem sparingly = don't need it
Are a whammy whacker = don't need it, but it works as advertised (requires locking tuners as well)

I have a JB with the LSR and I love it. I also have two other strats without it and I love them as well (they are properly set up at the nut and have locking tuners) and they stay in tune with moderate trem use just fine.

Tone: I don't notice any tone or sustain degradation using LSR.

Con: Can't handle string sizes larger than 11's (I haven't tried to be sure).

Conclusion, the LSR alone is not a panacea for tuning stability just a piece of the puzzle and not ness if you strat is set up and lubed properly. Basically the LSR takes fiddling with the nut for tuning stability out of the equation.

My two coppers worth.

I like mine and it wouldn't bother me in the slightest if ALL my guitars had one. Never had a single problem. This debate comes up from time to time and it's all been hashed out pretty thoroughly several times over but one topic that never seems to get discussed about the LSR is that you never, ever, get that "tink" while tuning up.

And you never have to worry about lube mess or forgeting to lube or even the cost of lube.

jus' sayin'

I was trying to think of a way to say that.... because I do not know how many times while tuning my Teles or Gibsons I have heard that sound..."tink"..... But to each his own. I have guitars with and without and there ALL fun to play and that is all that really matters!

I really am a beginner so i have to guess that the ****tink**** is the nosie that the string makes poping into position.

when i got my Fender American the neck just felt right. I am not sure why the LSR seems right, but it does. To be honest I have only been playing for a couple of months, So before I spend 1500. I like to get as much info as possible. Yes i know its a lot for a beginner but its going to stay with me until I leave it for my kids.
Thank you all for your positive responses
Robert
