May i ask. I have a SRV strat that i just adore the neck of, so much room to bend and just so nicely spaced intonation is just perfect, some width on the board it just feels like such a quality instrument and so nice to get around on. I have recently purchased a MIM relic'ed Strat 88, It has a modern C shape and it just feels so cluttered and no room to play with, I want a neck that is similar to the SRV without the price tag. I live in a coastal town of OZ and there is just not a shop where i can go try a heap of them, I have read as much as i can on the net but you guys no doubt would be able to set me straight. I have looked at buying a SRV neck for it but 500 plus neck on a MIM??? i just spent 160 on tex mex pups so i don't want to over capitalise on this or i might as well buy a 2nd SRV, Which is a great idea but the skirt is just freaking about my GAS and i need to filter in the two amps and pedals coming in as it is. She knows the SRV shiny one with the Gold is expensive so i cant bring another one home but i want to play a very similar neck on my basher strat. So is it a 50's neck? A jumbo wormoth? I don't want any bigger than the SRV just similar. Nothing so small and cluttered like a modern C or MIM 88 as i have is this a modern C? Most importantly is anything going to feel as nice as the SRV that is not 500 worth? Thanks in advance.

Ps I understand you thinking me a dik for buying it when it was not the neck for me but i just buy straight out of the US so i dont get to try before buy.

Warmoth can make you a neck with a SRV profile.

I don't think it's the neck you're fighting as much as it is the string spacing. MIMs and Squier's both have a narrower string spacing than a MIA. With narrower string spacing comes a narrower neck. So even if you buy an American or Warmoth neck for your MIM, the string spacing will still make it feel awkward for you.

What you need is another MIA guitar, or an MIM with American string spacing. The Jimmie Vaughan Stratocaster is made in Mexico, but it has American hardware installed on it (which means American string spacing) plus Tex Mex pickups. The neck is nice and wide, and it's V shaped which makes it very comfortable. American Specials and Highway Ones are affordable MIAs, but they both have thinner necks than the SRV. But they do have the right string spacing.

If you don't like your MIM and aren't particularly attached to it, then you might consider selling it for something you'd find more comfortable.

My understanding of the SRV neck is that it is an offset V. Where the thickest part of the neck is not at the center of the neck, but slightly favours the low string side. I can't remember who makes the same profile as a replacement (allparts, warmoth, both fender licenced), but I am sure I have seen it somewhere.

Maybe it's the 12" radius of the fretboard you like so much. Of my 3 Strats they each have a different radius, 7.5", 9.25" & 12" (SRV model). I find the same thing, the necks on the other two seem a bit cramped compared to the SRV. I suggest trying other 12" necks and see if that's what you're looking for.

Thank you so much that is such good advice, in other less clear ways i have just been told that this afternoon by a builder. I wish he had put it so well. instead of just saying it needed different size bridge. Thank you again.

My experience with sizes of necks is VERY limited i looked on Wormoth site, the net neck builder (on Jeffytunes adice thanks!) from Wormoth this arvo and it was too daunting for me, so i emailed them asking if, as he mentioned, They offer the same profile to start with and are waiting a reply.

Ps that makes so much sense in that it's just a nice big nut and board size and then from the 5th on the bottom up till idunno the 10th-12th it just takes a angle outward and beefs up till a nice chunky perfect size..... Wow thats off the bat huh...lol...feels that way to me...

Actually Highway ones and American Specials Have WIDE SCREW spacing but the NARROW STRING spacing. Also The American Standards have narrow string spacing as well, and the MIM classic series has Vintage Wide spacing.

American Vintage Reissues and American Vintage Hot Rod Reissues have vintage string spacing. And Also as said above some of the Classic Series MIM's have it. Simply because a strat is MIA doesn't mean it has wide string spacing.

Ok so Vintage String Spacing is the same as the SRV, I was thinking about what TGS said and i think it is a large factor in why it feels so good to me. So any of those 50's players strats have this spacing?

Yes the Classic 50's Strat does have vintage string spacing. It looks like the 50's players strat has narrow spacing. It seems these are two different series guitars. The Classic 50's is different from the 50's player series.

Okay. I think they both have the vintage string spacing. In the specs for the Classic Player it says 2 point Vintage style. So that should mean Vintage string spacing. Maybe someone else will comment on this?
