I'm thinking of ordering an American Deluxe with Sunset Metallic but I haven't found one in a store to look at. I can only see the Fender thumbnail online, it won't expand any larger. I wonder if anyone has that color and could post a picture for me. Thanks,

Can anyone tell me if this is Sunset Metalic? I got it off the Photos thread but it wasn't marked as far as color.

Drew,

at a first glance that looks like a Cherry Burst. Sunset metallic is a non-transparent finish :o

Sunset Metallic looks like this:

Which type of configuration you're looking? SSS or HSS?

HSS. That looks much nicer than this pic I found. I was turned off by this one and wanted to make sure if it was accurate or not.

I found this on ebay and it doesn't say the color. If this is it, then I like it!

HSS W/ rosewood fretboard is my current top contender. I've played most all of the models except the Jeff Beck and I've gone full circle back to the American Deluxe HSS that I first played. My plan is to buy or order something by this weekend.

Drew,
Plenty of pictures. We want plenty of pictures.

For those of us who are broke (actually who's wives have cut off the guitar cash flow for a while after last year's expenses) MUST live vicariously through the exploits of others. We want pictures... :D

I'll be happy to oblige. We all live vicariously through someone we know. Dreaming is what keeps most of us going. I always say that the real reason I buy Lotto tickets is for the two days of dreaming it gives me.
Can anyone confirm that this picture is a good photo of Sunset Metalic? I think it is but I'm not positive:

It's an SSS, here's the HSS you're looking for.

Image

The HSS has a special blower switch to route the overall signal from any pickup to the humbucker for a screaming fat lead sound.

For those who play a bit harder and made an extensive use of the whammy bar, the deluxe locking bridge assembly is also available as a separate accessory though I had hoped the new deluxes would sport that feature as optional.

Thanks for that info, Chrome. May I call you Chrome? :D Anyway, I'm going to talk to my local GC. I have a coupon for this weekends sale. If the coupon is good for an order and they can actually get me this guitar in a reasonable amount of time I think I'm going to go for the Sunset Metalic. There's a used one online in a different color that is a scream of a deal and I keep waffling between saving money or having a brand new one in a color I think I really like. Decisions, decisions!
Again, thanks for the help.

I am thinking you will like that guitar. In fact, I know you will actually love it. The Deluxes are awesome.

I initially considered the Sunset Metallic but settled on the Tobacco Burst Ash. But I am not done yet.

I bet that finish will really light up under some light . . .

Good luck with the coupon, GC is famous for not having what you want be applicable to the coupons.

Drew,
May I be so bold as to make a suggestion? Well, I'm going to anyway and if this comes across wrong, please forgive me in advance.

I would say get the one you want. If you "settle" for something different over a few dollars, you may be happy with it but not as happy as you could have been with the specific one you wanted.

There is nothing worse than talking yourself into liking the number 2 choice.

In my 50+ years of life, I've bought things that were less expensive than what I really wanted, wasn't happy, a year or two later ended up selling the stuff at a loss and buying what I should have bought in the first place. The effort to save a few dollars ended up costing me more than if I had just done the right thing in the first place.

Somewhere in the last 50 years, I either got a lot smarter or just got tired of throwing money away. Now, I buy what I want. If I can't afford it right now, I'll hold off on the purchase until I can get it.

Of course, I'll never be able to afford that Ferrari 458 Italia I want, but that's a totally different matter... :D

Last summer while I was shopping form my 2010 Am Dlx all the stores in my area ONLY had sunset metallic in stock?

The pix online aren't totally accurate. In person, at least to my eyes, the colors/shading looks like something you might see on a gas tank of a custom motorcycle. It's quite bright/flashy and has a definite airbrushed effect. I actually prefer the online pix--they're a bit toned down compared to the real thing.

Anyway, I ultimately went for Olympic Pearl.

BTW, American Musical Supply has a no-questions-asked free exchange policy--I did it twice. Plus I was able to talk them down to $1200. Just make sure you place your order via phone so you can negotiate.
