Hi speedy01,

Pictures would help, full front, full rear, headstock front and rear. All that the serial number tells us is that the guitar was made in Mexico in '97 to '98. Contact Fender with the serial number, and they may be able to give more specifics as to how it came from the factory.

That sounds like the Deluxe Powerhouse Strat, with the active pre-amp boost circuit.

Some details:

21-fret neck (rosewood or maple), 9.5" radius, medium jumbo frets, vintage-style tuning machines
Vintage-spec hardware, with 2-7/32" string spacing, zinc trem block
Active 12 dB boost, accessed via the lower tone control
Dummy coil concealed within the control cavity rout for noiseless operation
Alnico III single coil pickups similar in output to those of the AmStd model
Poplar body routed for S/S/H configuration
White MOP pickguard, with a varied selection of colors dependent upon the year

Mine is Caramel Metallic, with rosewood furniture.

HTH

Thanks for the info! Sounds like what I have except for it's Lake Placid Blue, small headstock, trem & battery covers white (don't match white MOP p/g)...plenty loud and crispy !!! Don't think I'm going to try to mod this one as it appears all original. Sorry no pics at this time. Thanks again !!!

Yes, LPB was one of the colors offered (it was later changed to a darker "Navy Blue"). The trem cover will always be white, but the battery compartment and cover could be either white or black with a pebble-grain texture. As well, some battery compartments were positioned diagonally from the corner of the trem cover while others were parallel-offset along the body axis. They're pretty versatile instruments actually -- known in some quarters as the "poor man's EC model".

Best of luck with yours, HTH
