It's pretty clear what you were implying.

For what it's worth, "relicing" instruments and other produts has been around for alot loneger than it has been done on guitars.

I did not chastise your post, I replied to it with an accurate response. You in turn insulted another member and now you are insulting me. The sure sign of an "educated" man.

As previously posted, a troll is someone who posts to internet forums with negative intent, usually to start a fight and insult other people.

strat789 you seem to have made a couple new friends. I like you could care less what others like or dislike. I do find it interesting how some people react when they find out someone doesent like the same thing they do. And as far as the whole search thing I never seem to find anything when I try to do a search. And now for my opinion on the RW's. I did buy one when they first came out however didn,t have it very long. I did like the feel of the neck. So welcome and keep up the quest for information.

 But i get it! A beautiful deluxe gorgous finished strat with gold hard ware and deep clear covering your colour colour of choice, Or a haggard looking trashed one that cost more?? Tis a no brainer for me, I adore my SRV but that said the marks from my strumming hand wearing the clear upsets me, I for that reason pick up the banged up relic 10 times as much. I bought a MIM relic so i can leave it on the floor/couch/table outside/ Next to the bed and it does not matter. But to pay big bucks for a trashed guitar uh uh! no way!!!

And if so why don’t they just take a bit of sandpaper to a lower cost second hand purchase?
Love to hear some views on this

That was the quote from the original post which no body has really answered.
I don’t have an answer; I have personally never liked the road worn guitars. That’s not saying that they are not good guitars, it’s just that I personally don’t get them.

The laws of business will answer the relic guitar question. Supply and demand. As long as there are players out there who are watching Clapton, or Beck or Mayer, or Stevie or any number of Blues players and like the look of a worn out Strat, then there will be numerous guitar manufactures, builders, luthiers and hobbyists who will be only happy to sell you one, while the gettin is good.

Tomorrow when Goldtops or rare Norwegian woods are the rage, then we will be back to debating colors and tone woods.

It's marketing and we're buying. When we stop, then manufacturers will be back to more durable, forever glossy finishes for those who can't stand even the smallest chip. Remember back in the day, Leo was taking his fair share of Nitro painted Strat's back when the finish failed miserably and players new to this fancy electric guitar, didn't want their paint finish ruined with yellowing and body checking. (all the things that a buyer covets now). Hell, Leo painted over less selling colors to provide guitars for buyers who preferred more popular colors. So it's been happening since the first fiddle was made and its not going to stop now.

Enjoy the ride, buy what you dig, play it hard and put it away wet. The rest of them, dry em off and put em back in their cases. Don't even breath on that one !! (Imagine what Nigel would say if he read this thread, sheesh)

If I had the coin, I'd drop it all on a masterbuilt relic. BUT there is one issue for me. I'd take a NOS or Closetclassic over them. Why?

What would this guitar look like 40yrs from today?

See what I mean?

But all in all- lets quit the hate. Relic/RW owners are sensitive to this debate sometimes. You buy jeans that look old, you buy nike re-issues to look old-school, the same with guitars. Big deal- move on :)

Blertles Blertles Blertles . Hate!!! Get a grip… as they say.

I’m just Having a laugh and if Voovoo boy and others don’t see it. They need to get out more..

Who is Nigel Tufnel?

Chicago blue ..on the button as usual.. It’s the same with golf club manufactures. Those who target the better golfer make kit with sensible names. Model numbers usually, to separate/differentiate the range of their products…Then there are those who target the Wanabees.. They make some good gear, but call it.. Burner… Superfast.. Diablo… and the like. Guitars, as you say are like most things in life. Someone wants it, someone will supply it..and why not.

Oh.. Voovoo baby.. “ It's pretty clear what you were implying.” There you are doing it again… Your telling me what I’m thinking. Learn for goodness sake. Were not in Russia now you know..

Of course I know in computer speak what a Troll is . Again, it’s just a bit of what we call in the UK “ a wind up “

Now be good and go practice, that’s what I am going to do. Why! because I want to and because I want to be as good as you. Love and kisses.789...

I'm kinda neutral to the relic thing, I think they look cool in pictures but the few CS Relics I've played just looked like mistreated guitars. I've only played one vintage 60's Fender so I don't have very much to compare the CS guitars to. When I had my '78 Strat refinished I had the option of having it reliced but decided against it. On the flip side the couple of Road Worn Strats I've played sounded and felt very nice.
