First let me reply to BRNMC.. Do you? “ can you “ read what you write.
You say I’m rude! “Listen boy” Dear, dear, dear. Nice polite opening.

First.. I’m not a boy as you would have known had you taken the time and did me the courtesy to read what I had written properly. Secondly… most of what you wrote is challenging and impolite at best, yet you have the audacity to say I’m rude. If you had taken the time you would have noted that the IQ barb was aimed at the chap with the 58 nom de plume. That was the clue you see. Third… I did not open my mouth as you so succinctly put it. As a stated novice to the form and Guitar playing. I was " simply "
" a word you can identify with I’m sure “ trying to participate and at the same time understand something that puzzled me. Any decent person would make allowance for that.
I did not criticize worn guitars or the people who purchase them.... Finally.. Master's Voodoo and 58 were not exactly polite themselves were they? and as they, you and Mr Jimmy Denton have found out. One educated IQ beats 4 that welded together equal the number of strings on my Strat.

IT'S BEEN SAID BEFORE ANOTHER POINT OV VIEW.

1. I assume, like me, new people are coming on to the forum all the time and don’t know the history, so questions get repeated. This can be boring I’m sure. Not a crime though, and does not call for the two curt responses I received.
2.You know the posting subject before you open it. Ergo, if you are fed up with the topic just don’t open it “ simple “ or if you do. Close it again without response.
3. If you do simply wish to give advice, do it politely.
4. Earlier users of the forum may not have responded to previous postings or may have changed their opinion and wish to express a new one..

PS: I did do a search and respected all the intelligently put opinions. While not agreeing with many of them. However as a novice what do I know? That’s why w ask questions In pursuit of knowledge.

As you say in America..Have a nice day..

Hi strat789,

Welcome! I think that I read the thread that you mentioned, it did get a bit ugly. Usually, polite newbies get a good reception around here, being rude isn't the norm on the forum......at least until you've been here awhile. We don't always get along with everybody, but there are lot's of decent, helpful folks here, stick around and you'll see. :)

WOW ! That has got to be the most polite verbal bashing I have ever read on a forum. Very well put together and excellent use of verbiage.

This should be the link to the discussion viewtopic.php?f=6&t=50909&p=610226#p610226
Also let me say this, that yeah people can be very rude....and I understand your question about relic'd Strats, and I don't care for them either.
That has been discussed many times here but there's no reason for rudeness.
I've played Fender and Gibson guitars since the late '60s,and have put honest wear and tear on several that I have kept....they have been treated well, like the valuable instruments they are and well worth the hard earned money I spent on them, and the relic'd look on those guitars is also hard earned.
But today in this world of instant gratification, people want a guitar that looks like it's a well worn instrument and will spend much more of their money to get it.....and there's a large market for them.
The bad part is,most regular people can't afford a vintage Strat...I can't even afford to buy a '65 that I once had.
There's lots of reasons people love those relic'd guitars.

hahaha classic

the reason i bought a roadworn wasnt for instant gratification but because it was a great sounding, playing guitar and had all the features i was looking in a strat, big frets 60's styling, great sounding pups. I didnt go in looking for a relic guitar to be a "poser" i tried out a SRV a 60's mim and a 62 american reissue. the Roadworn sounded better to me and just fit and felt right. so i guess im branded a posser wannabe because i didnt earn the pre worn marks, but unless you owned a 60's strat from new you didnt earn those worn bits either.

Hi strat789, nice word arrangement you wrote up there. :) Most people here are nice and really helpful like shimmolou said. Hope you stick around. There's lots of good experience here. I've learned alot here in a short time.

As for the Road Worns, Ive played a few that really felt good and sounded good. Some love 'em some don't. It's just a matter of personal taste and what a person wants. As for me, when I buy a new guitar, I want my new guitar to be new :D , not all beat up. Sure it looks cool but it's not real. No history behind all the wear. I would rather put my own wear on it with normal use and love and care. Then it means something to me. I do however like old used guitars with that natural, real wear on them, there's just something about'em that speaks to me. These are only my opinions. To each his own. :)

HAVE A NICE DAY!!!! :)

Being a newbie, both to playing guitar and this website myself, I do try and do some research before posting, old threads however don’t always answer the question that I have or maybe someone who didn’t answer is answering now.
I have read your post and just don’t get what the big deal was about. I will also say that the people that have responded to my posts have been more than help full. I think the way you came back and handled it was impressive and look forward to reading your posts in the future.

Hey, Strat 789, you probably could have phrased your original post a little better, instead of saying:

"Do buyers think it makes them look good or look better players than they are or what"

I can't imagine a relic owner not taking a little offense to that. It's not just a question, it's a statement, and not a pleasant one.

If you'd said, "I'm fairly new to guitars, and I'm curious about the relic guitars. What do you relic players like about them?", I'm guessing you'd have gotten some thoughtful responses.

And welcome to the forum. There appears to be a wide range of folks that use it. Some reasonable, and some not, but putting one's best foot forward usually seems to work.

Hello Barbar,…Yes, I do see your point… In saying that I would have thought that one would have to be a little overly sensitive to take serious offence…. But your point is well made. Put simply I was trying to get to the thinking behind the purchase…The use of the word “ Buyers “ was ill judged. Anyway, I do like a bit of controversy and challenging debate, so the truth is. The responses from Voodoo and Co did not actually offend me in the slightest. Just having some fun, naughty of me I know.

Regards 789

You must be kidding me. You are accusing me of being impolite while you verbally offend someone's IQ? I may have overreacted, but I'm sick of unpolite people. They only told you to do a research since that kind of topic has been discussed 1000 times. You would have apologized and research.

I would have replied to you if you would have asked nicely. We aren't here just to please you and answer your questions. We are a community.

I personally have a Road Worn guitar. If you had opened a good topic, asking nicely your questions I would have given you a full review on the 60's Road Worn and explain why it's a versatile and splendid guitar for the money you pay. They didn't do it just for the looks.

Last March when I was trying out several Strats with intentions of buying a "new" one there were Worn and Relics there but I didn't even consider trying any of them out for the simple fact that when I buy a new guitar I expect it to look new, just as I'd expect a new car,orTV,or stove,or house to look new.I have yet to hear or read one convincing argument that would entice me to buy a reliced guitar.I would consider a guitar that had the neck given a played in feel but as for a beat up and dented body that doesn't appeal to me in the slightest.BTW I believe that people who have been on the forum for a while should make allowances for newcomers, they can't be expected to know what topics have or have not been covered and it would be impractical to do a search of every topic that they were curious about. It takes a while for someone to become accustomed to the etiquette and protocols of the forum and we were all new to the forum at one time.Whether someone is new or has been here for eons there is no need for personal attacks regarding someone's intelligence or whatever so could we throw away the verbal artillary please.

Good morning BRNMC. You’ve made me laugh, not about what you say just at you…

Look at the tone of your post. You can’t have it both ways. Have a read at my exchange with Guitslinger and what he says particularly about new members..

This exaggerated indignation that has you in a froth is kidding no one..

You said “I would have replied to you if you would have asked nicely. We aren't here just to please you and answer your questions. We are a community. “

Pardon me “ We “ who’s this we? …An ill advised use of one word generated three curt and impolite responses, yours being the most asinine. Which “ had you taken the time to read Guitslinger “ I have acknowledged. So be absolutely clear on this point. I never set out to offend. I am happy for anyone on this Forum to say anything they like about me. As long as it is in the full and certain knowledge that I will respond in a manner which leaves them in no doubt as to my position, like it or not.

Moving on. You said …. “ I would have given you a full review on the Road Worn “ I did not ask for a review. I was simply trying to get an understanding of why someone pays all that money. When, to my ill-informed mind they could do it themselves to a decent second hand guitar that I assume, would cost less than a new one, that’s all. While on the subject. Without doing a poll because I don’t know how
I still get the impression that your point of view ( which you are entitled to ) is in the minority.

PS: talking about IQ’s. You did not say if you like the analogy with the guitar strings.

Have a nice day.

Anyways, strat789, I don't think I ever got the chance to welcome you to the forums! Welcome man! 8)
