Hi guys, I am new to this forum but I figured you guys would know more about this. I have a 2002 American Fender Deluxe strat in Black with a Rosewood fretboard. It has an aged pickgaurd and cream knobs and noiseless pickups. I was wondering if my Fender will become I guess "vintage" later on in its life.

I was wondering because I am getting tired of the tremolo going out of tune because of binding at the nut, so I wanted to possibly change the standard nut to a roller like the new deluxes have. Also I was thinking about changing to maybe some Lace pickups, but that can be changed easily and changed back without any problems. Also possibly in the future if I get bored with the black I was thinking bout painting it some nice burst that I saw on this one MIJ Deluxe Plus strat. It was like blue candy burst or something.

But if my fender will become vintage and worth much money then I guess I will try and find a better tech to set up my guitar better to relieve some of the trem stability problems. He already messed up my neck angle a little and made a couple dings on the bottom of the body so I should take it to a better tech anyway. (btw I know you will like yell at me and say what you shoulda made him pay for the damages, but he is a friend of the family so I didnt want to piss him off)

If something doesnt make sense just tell me, I have a small migraine today so I'm crazy today lol

In my opinion, I don't worry about the "value" of anything. If it needs something I put it on, if something needs changed I change it, if I'm sick of it I sell it. The only value is the value to me. If I was looking for a financial investment it wouldn't be a guitar.

Disclaimer : Don't take my advice it isn't coming form a stable mind.

On another note, you may be able to help the tuning with some graphite lube available most major suppliers. You could possibly change the nut to a graphite nut and save the old one also.
If the neck is messed up and its all dinged up you might as well just go for it and mod it up.

Rather than switch to a LSR roller nut, just take your axe in and have the nut you have slotted properly. It sounds like that is the real issue here. Also a little something to consider, if you get the LSR and decide later you don’t like the tinny sound it has, your stuck. They have to cut wood out around the nut to install the LSR and you wont be able to go back.

Just my .002 but before you do anything drastic why not go to the store and play one with the roller nut and see if your ok with the sound change. If you are still wanting better tuning try going with a Graph tech nut, I use it on my and love it.

well the neck just needs a truss rod adjustment and a frets leveled again and the body only has like 2 dings. I've played the ones with the roller and I am fine with it but I think I will just get my fender setup with a new graphtech nut and see how that goes. Also I'll make a quick swap switching system on my pickups to the jack so I can easily swap out pickgaurds, one will have the original one will be Lace ;)
If the tuning problems still exist and annoy me I might as well go to a Floyd Rose because I love those. I know some ppl hate the little hassles of it like initial setup and changing strings(which is easy for me now) but I like em ;)

Do whatever needs to be done, but try to keep it as original as possible. Or get another guitar.

In 100 years, everything from now will be vintage. 8)
