How many hours a day is it being played? We need data!

And which finish are you talking about? Obviously, polyurethane lasts far, far longer than nitrocellulose. Years. Decades.

Cheers - C

I would think it wholly depends on how hard it's played, who is playing it, how it's cared for, etc. I don't think there is one answer. I do know they are durable in my own experience.

Long enough to party, which is exactly 78.4 years. Although I always thought the answer was 42.

Never was fortunate enough to own a real 50's strat with nitro.......Nitro will wear faster than the urethane used today. My old 70's strats' board is still like new though, and the only guitar I owned that the urethane wore through on was a 1995 maple neck MIM strat. And then it was only on the 2nd fret. You will have to play A LOT to wear out the fretboard of a modern maple neck, polyurethane finished strat :)

What a loaded question.

My poly covered fretboard will outlast me for sure.

How's your technique? The better amd lighter your touch the longer it lasts. Theoretically, it could last forever, because if oyu use perfect technique there would be no contact between the fretboard and anything else, strings, your gros sweaty hands (which are the biggest cuplrits!!) anything at all.

Oh and Hop, remember how much trouble "Just the facts Ma'am" got me in right around when we founded the '2 or 3' Club?!

I just wipe mine over with a soft cotton cloth (a new face towel to be exact) when ever i change strings just to keep the grime down, if its got a Polly finish just treat it the same as everything else, its only rosewood that needs a bit of extra care.

I clean mine with oil, "very little" oil I must stress. Nothing chemical or acidic, good ol organic stuff, like lemon oil, etc...
