Dont you dare drilling that neck!
Schaller Locking tuners would be a direct upgrade to it. No need for making holes on that wonderful neck.

A few days have passed on, and I still got this on my mind:
Why that neck Godddd,,,, whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy !!!!!

I think I´m gonna get in trouble with my GASsing issues soon... 8)

Maybe you can get a custom shop neck, to help your GAS issue!?

Yeah, no need to drill more! Wouldn't want to weaken the headstock or something.

I have the Fender Schaller-style locking tuners because the Schallers only come in dull brushed chrome. Maybe I could actually lose one of the two string trees!

If you got the Fender/Schaller locking tuners ther are supposed to be staggered. The three shorter ones go on the # 4-6 strings. They are a direct fit. May be a little snug in the holes, but carefully tighten the bolts and they should go right into place.

I have a set on all my electric guitars. Read the book that came withe the guitar and it will tell you how to use them. Makes string changing a breeze and they look cool.

Did you keep both string trees on your Special with the locking tuners installed??

I think that with staggered tuners there´ll be no need for the D/G string tree. But I would leave it there just because I wouldnt want to have a hole showing off that beautiful neck´s headstock. 8)

Yes I kept them on, but I do not use them. Really no need. I just don't want holes in the headstock. Since this is the only modification on the guitar, (and black accessaries) it would be really easy to restore it to stock should I ever decide to.

You could always fill one or two holes with wood filler, and re-insert the screws if you need to. I'll see what happens when I install the tuners.
