Ok now thats official. I wont sleep this night over that deal you´ve got.
I keep thinking if in your run the American Special series were out of maple necks, so the Custom Shop may have "borrowed" some for the line.
Dont forget to contact me first if you ever think of selling this babe one day. 8)

Could be the line accidentally took a custom shop piece of neck wood! Who knows. Maybe the custom shop didn't like the wood, flamed as it is, so they donated it to the line production team?

If I ever think of selling it, you will be the first in line!

That's a really good-looking strat, man! Congratz!

Now you just have to get it scalloped YJM-style. ;)

With these huge frets, it feels like it's scalloped already!

Interesting info on the Callaham trem. I usually float to half of Fender's spec, but I wonder why the Callaham block / design doesn't let you dive much unless you deck the trem? Seems pretty limiting, no? Thanks for the heads-up. The top plate on the Ping trem that came with the guitar is pretty junky, I would hate to not use the Callaham in place of the Ping. I'll set it up and see what happens. If the trem doesn't let me be me, I'll sell it and get an AVRI trem. Stay tuned!

What's so junky about it? Do you just like the nickel plating better than the chrome?

Maybe junky isn't fair to say. Not the best quality is more accurate.

Yeah, but what specifically makes the top plate junky to you?
The Callaham one I got actually had a little crack where the edge of the bent part tapers into the flat part, nearest the whammy bar hole. I was kind of turned off by that and then when I went to assemble it I noticed that it didn't dive as far as the stocker (probably due to where the block is spaced in relation to the top plate) so I just used the fender top plate like my other highway one. Not knockin Callaham, he makes nice stuff, just opted for the stock plate and never gave it much thought after that...
I actually got curious after you said that and looked and can't find any info on whether the fender plate is of any higher or lower quality material than the Calliham part... He says his is high carbon steel but I imagine any top plate would have to be made of pretty durable stuff to put up with standard whammy bar abuse...
Anyway, just wondering what it is you don't like about it.

Get an octavia, wah, uni-vibe, and fuzz face and you'd be set. And don't forget the coil-cord.

By the way, looking at the guitar, it has a six-screw trem already. Tell me how it can be any different than a AVRI trem, because I have my doubts that there is any difference.

I found this FSR Olympic White one at a different GC in a nicer part of the state. When I saw the neck, I jumped on it! I'll be installing a Callaham vintage spaced tremolo in the next few days - that should make it play even better, if the legend is true! Here are some pics...

This guitar looks especially amazing played upside down a la Jimi Hendrix.

Just throw in a set of CS 69s with the reverse-staggered bridge pickup. These babies will take you from Woodstock into a new era.
