I like it as-is, very different looking! The black adds to the coolness factor. Throw a white guard on there, and it becomes an eyesore!

That would really look nice with a matching head stock

Yay...Looks nice with either guard I think... I guess I like the white one better but they both look cool... Would also look cool with a black guard and aged pup covers and knobs (IMO) The finish is pretty unique and I happen to like them both (Rootbeer & Orange) If you're a freak for "Thin Skin" finishes this ain't for you... it's really thick and not get everyone on a rant about body wood "breathing" but this one's being strangled to death, the other day I was looking at an old Catalog from '79? I think and Fender was advertising "Thick Skin" finishes... how tastes change! Anyhow...

I love my Sunfire Orange HSS but about the only thing original about it now is the body, pickguard and bridge.

What kind of neck is that on your Sunfire Orange HSS? Looks good with the rosewood...

I think it's an American Series or a Hwy1 "large headstock" neck.

No sir, it is a MIM with the early small headstock.

I love my Sunfire, but I have changed it a bit....just to the way i like it.

MIM necks had 21 vintage-style frets. That rosewood neck on the Sunfire HSS is an American 22-fretter!

That extra fret comes in handy when playing in the key of A.

I was in a music store a few months ago. I never go to this store, I just happened to be shopping in the area and decided to check out guitars while the wife shopped next door. I had no idea they even sold Fenders. They had the Rootbeer Flake on the wall. I cant say I liked it too much. I say NAY.

Mint guard and aged white parts might just make it a keeper. As is, I would have to pass.
