Hey, i just posted the fotos becaus i wanted to know more or less the value of my guitar. I do not have the time for discusing if it's fake or not. I know it's not. So thanks for the answers. (This is a special typ my father ordered individually, so it might me normal that you think it's fake ) It's unique, the only one in gold and nature.

Thanks in any way for the infos.

We're all trying to help you determine how much it's worth. Don't get all upset when you don't like the answer.

Eric Barrett Jimi's tech/equipment manager was often cobbling together bits and pieces of destroyed and worn out Strats to make a good one.One Olympic White one in particular had the neck pocket poorly routed-most likely hand chisled-to accept a Tele neck for the Atlanta or a Florida outdoor concert I believe.I wonder if it's possible the Woodstock Strat may be that particular one with a Strat neck put back on as the Tele Necked one was only used at one venue as far as I can ascertain. It could very well be two other Strats cobbled together also.

The decal looks absolutely wrong though. There's no gold edge.

Have you ever seen a CBS black dull to grey with wear spots, and be in the wrong place?

It's a fake neck on a fake guitar. The other giveaway is the curvature to where the rosewood meets the maple.

Well, as a 1967, the logo would have been gold with black edging. I see the black edge around the letters, but the gold color has completely darkened (oxidized?). I have seen that before on some of those mid-60s logos. So I believe the neck is fine.

The body is a question. The photos aren't good enough to see the dowels. We'd like to see underneath the pickguard and take count of the pickguard screw holes.

I seriously doubt that the guitar left the factory with that body in a natural finish and with gold hardware, gold pickguard and gold tremolo. If the owner is trying to claim it to be some kind of Special Order, he would need to show any potential (serious) buyer the documentation (like the original purchase order, etc) to back up that claim.

I have the receipts from the guitars I bought new ... even some receipts from the sellers of the ones I bought used.

Pull the neck and show the neck heel and the neck pocket, then we have the truth (hopefully).

Cheers,

What do you make of the position of the logo? It looks way too near the edge of the headstock to my eye.

You guys are so mean. Just tell him it's a 1-of-a-kind very sought after unique guitar worth well over $100K on the open market.

I don't know much about vintage Fenders (Martin's yes, Fenders, no). However I do know about wood working and by what I saw in the photographs, the body has been refinished and it's not a great refinish at that.

So, if the story is true that it was your dad's or brother's or whatever, the guitar is probably worth more to you for that reason than it would be to anyone else.

Truth of the matter is vintage guitars are worth what someone is willing to pay you for it and not a dime more or a dime less.

I know guys who have vintage (1930's early 1940's) Martin guitars who won't play them because they are too valuable. I told one of the guys (and he is a friend) that he was collecting statues and not guitars. Guitars were made to be played. Something sitting in a case inside a temperature and humidity controlled room to never see the light of day or be played on stage is an expensive statue it is no longer a guitar.

So, to the original poster, how does it play, how does it sound? When was the last time you played it and played it hard like it was intended to be played? That's the real question, not how much is it worth.

Jeff

The logos in 67 were Gold with a black edge like so:

Also the Curvature is correct. The Slab board Rosewood stopped in 63

I'm talking about the curvature of the rosewood onto the drop away into the headstock. Never seen that before. I'm fully aware of the differences between slab and veneer boards.

Image

What about the logo being out of position? Ok I can accept that theres a discolouration to the font. Though I've never seen it before, certainly not to that degree. Add the fact that the thing is far too close to the edge of the headstock.

Oh ok I see what you are talking about.

The logo position doesn't surprise me or scream fake to me either. I've seen many legit CBS Transition strats (65-67) and the logo seems to be all over the place as far as position. In the Strat Chronicles book there was even a legit 65 I believe with two "Original Contour body" decals. Also the discoloration is normal. I played a 65 at Gruhn's in Nashville and the gold in the logo was almost black form fading.

Maybe that one was made by Leo himself, that would explain a lot of details that differs from stock factory production strats. That said, yes that would be worth $100 plus.

Seems to me that anyone who actually had an original authentic vintage strat would know the value of it. :D
