Hi there people.I own an American standart Strat and i intent to replace the bridge pickup.I like many kinds of music but im mostly in the hard/alternative rock of the 90's.The thing though is that I know almost nothing about pickups and stuff. After a research that i did i ended up to Seymour Duncan Hot rails. So what do you people think?Any feedback would be apreciated.

I don't know much about pups either...but when I think of metal or even just hard rock, I think of humbuckers. In your case...a humbucker in the bridge.

Someone more knowledgable should definitely weigh in, but I would think to get a really great metal sound, you're going to need a humbucker in the bridge. I believe AMSTDs are routed to house a humbucker at the bridge, but you'd probably need a new pickguard to fit around.

Have a hotrail in the bridge on one of my strats. Sounds great with high gain and a singing lead tone. It's a good alternative to a full size bucker.

There are quite a few buckers that are sized to fit in a single coil pickguard. The Hot Rails can be good but I found it to be a little hotter than I wanted. There's also a Cool Rails but I've never tried that one. The Li'l Screamin' Demon is a great middle-of-the-road bridge pup. DiMarzio also makes some interesting choices.

I assume you are looking for a side by side arrangement and not the stacked kind.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I dont want to put on a fullsize humbucker.Mostly cause in my town there is none to trust to do major changes. The hot rails and others that I m thinking also, claimed to have all the benefits of a humbucker in a singe-coil sized pickup. Is that the full truth or is it just another marketing trick?

@BMW-KTM I dont know what the difference would be between a side by side arrangement and the stacked kind.
