well well well i was browsing through here and it seems like you people know enough to help me out! im looking for a startcrastor thanks !

hah just kidding, well im fairly new to fenders, my main guitar i have been playing is an epiphone les paul (which has served me quite well i must say) and waaaaay back when i used to own a crappy squier (which is now in pieces, RIP). anyways im looking to spend around 700-900 maybe a bit more depending on the guitar. something with a really nice funky, rock, bluesy sound. preferably 3 single coils, with an interesting finish (no plain black, sierra sunburst or blues are hot) and a maple neck(this is a must). something that wont go out of tune when i wail away on the whammy ( you can fix this by screwin around with the springs in the back right? eh not sure). like i said im new to fenders and am unaware of differences between american/mex and other stuff like that. any input is GREATLY appreciated, im very excited about this and once i get a few suggestions ill start lookin around. thanks for your time!

The new American Standards are going for $999.99

Here's a link to the page with the color and neck options. Yeah, maple is available.

this is more affordable but im not too sure on the cons of this guitar that could possibly turn me off of it. any input?

There are a few members here with that exact same guitar. I've only heard good things about it.

I would never order a guitar (which you want to play with for the next years) off of a website.

A friend of mine did it and just tried it in another shop and when he got it only the feeling did not seem right so after a few weeks he came back to his old (much cheaper) guitar.

I would suggest either an American Deluxe Start/S-1 and Cobalt Noiseless Pickups or a Clapton Strat. A few bucks more than the American Standard, but both give you more tones and options. As to buying guitars on the internet, I do it all the time and have never been burned once. Good luck

Very good choice, you shouldn't be dissappointed. There are lots of ways to keep a whammy bar "user freindly" without getting into messing with the springs (it's OK to do that to "fine-tune" the feel to your liking, but not necessary to eliminate tuning issues...see my other posts).
Don't sell the Squires short. They've come a long way and many models rival their Fender counterparts and win every time in the "bang-for-the-buck" battle. I have a late 90's Pro Tone (ash body, maple neck, aged hardware, mint green pickguard with a honey-blond finish) that's just as solid as an comparable American built Strat (which I also own).
Go to the store and sample all the candy...you'll surely find something sweet to take home!
