I've always loved green guitars, particularly Strats and Strat-types.

However, Sterling Ball of Ernie Ball/Music Man often says on their forum that "green guitars don't sell"; I assume that Fender also has never sold enough of the green ECs to keep them around. It seems like the color was dropped for a few years then brought back, so it could possibly make a comeback in a couple of years.

Oh, my green guitars over the years - an AV '62 Strat in Sherwood green, a Peavey Wolfgang, and an EBMM Silhouette Special in a green/gold color called "olive gold".

I remember back in the mid 90's when I first got my drivers license, I used to drive to every guitar store in a 20 mile radius, at least 2x per week. There was one place, called Zapf's Music in Cherry Hill, NJ that had a Candy Green Clapton strat. I used to go there and look around, just to pass by the rack the guitar sat on so I could stare at it. This was before places like Guitar Center ever came to my area. I remember being there and it was the most beautiful color strat I ever saw, I think the current EC strats are the best yet, but I'd take an older one in a heartbeat, solely for the Candy Green color.

That being said...it is a rare color, but 10-15 years ago, those guitars weren't but $1000. There are some around, I wouldn't drop $1300 on one. Not when you can go to guitar center and talk them into selling you a new one for $1400 or so.

......but there are those for whom the LS equipped guitars are preferred, in addition to which, the earlier models, late 80's, were top of the line for their time.

ZZDoc, you speak the truth.

The OP may prefer one of the originals...but if not....

The Candy Green finish was a nice colour. :)

I wonder why Fender decided to stop producing the Candy Green EC models.

Not enoug interst in the color. I'm curious, if stores had ordered more Candy Green, would there be more people who own them and would Fender have kept the color.

I'm glad I got a green one before they stopped making them.

My guess would be that once the black strat was re-introduced it likely became the sales leader notwithstanding the fact that the Artist Series was available in red, pewter, white, and green (for a time). Recognize that the Custom Shop Signature Series was only offered in black, and two blues. Then the LTD EC Grey [Grigio Silverstone] and Daphne Blue. As guitar finishes go, the green is kind of a 'freaky' color and it takes a collector who sees how unique a dunusual it is, to appreciate it.
