Hey all, I have a 2004 American Deluxe Strat and it came with a really handy S1 switching diagram detailing the wiring used when the S1 switch is pressed down. This is what it has for the 2004 American Deluxe:
S-1 Switch Down:
Position 1. Bridge Pickup in Series with Middle Pickup
Position 2. Bridge Pickup in Parallel with Special Capacitor and in Series with Middle Pickup
Position 3. Bridge/Middle/Neck Pickups with Neck and Bridge Pickups in Parallel and in Series with Middle pickup
Position 4. Neck Pickup in Parallel with Special Capacitor and in Series with Middle Pickup
Position 5. Neck Pickup in Series with Middle Pickup

I just bought a 2010 American Deluxe Stratocaster and I know they have re-wired the S1 switch on this model. But it came with no explanation or wiring diagram! It sounds completely different from my 2004 when I'm using the S1 switch and I would like to know what the changes are. Can anyone help me out?

There are three or more Am Dlx diagrams listed here, do you know your model/part number? You can download and compare the diagrams to see which you have.

http://www.fender.com/support/articles/stratocaster-service-diagrams

Some of the diagrams are a little confusing, as they show position 1 as the neck, and some show position 1 as the bridge. I believe that the correct numbering is position 1 for the bridge, just look at the actual position in the picture, rather than the number. :)

Those service diagrams are an excellent resource! They don't have the latest models up there though. They have the 2004 series diagrams but they don't have the 2010 series diagrams up there yet. That's exactly the type of diagram I'm looking for though. I just need it for the 2010 American Deluxe Stratocaster.

Hi,
I have it at home somewhere. If nobody answers before I get off work, I'll post something tonight.

Hey Jeff, I really appreciate you taking the time to look that up and post it. I have the S-S-S configuration and from what I've gotten off the Fender website about the 2010 American Deluxe Stratocaster the wiring is different than the HSS.

Here's what I got from the 2010 American Deluxe V-Neck Stratocaster Specs page:

Auxiliary Switching: S-1 Switch On: Pos. 1. Bridge/Mid/Neck Pickups, 2-Bridge/Mid, 3-Mid/Neck, 4-Bridge/Neck Out-Of-Phase/In Series w/ Tone Cap, 5-Bridge/Mid In Series/Out-Of-Phase/In Parallel with Neck Pickup

But as you can see, for positions 2 and 3 it doesn't detail if they're in Series, Parallel or blended with the special cap. So if anyone knows, I would sure love to find out.

mvrush,
no problem. After I looked, I realized my set up is HSS and wasn't sure if it's the same or not.

Mine is a Mexi strat that I swapped out a complete Am Delux pickguard fully set up HSS. Some guy was parting one out and I grabbed the setup. The sheet I referenced was enclosed.

You may want to send an email to Fender customer service and ask if they could either email a PDF to you or send you the sheet. I'm sure they have it and would be happy to send one to you.

Hope this helps.

Jeff

Hey Jeff, I did just what you said and contacted Fender Support. They got me the answer I was looking for. Here's the switching for the 2010 SSS American Deluxe Stratocaster:

5-Position Blade and 2-Position Push/Push S-1TM:

S-1 Switch Up (Off):
Position 1. Bridge Pickup
Position 2. Bridge and Middle Pickup in Parallel
Position 3. Middle Pickup
Position 4. Middle and Neck Pickup in Parallel
Position 5. Neck Pickup

S-1 Switch Down (On):
Position 1. Bridge, Middle and Neck Pickups in Series
Position 2. Bridge and Middle Pickup in Series
Position 3. Middle and Neck Pickup in Series
Position 4. Bridge and Neck Pickup Out-Of-Phase, and in Series with Special Tone Capacitor
Position 5. Bridge and Middle Pickup in Series and Out-Of-Phase, and in Parallel with Neck Pickup

Hopefully that helps someone else in the future.
