Oh no, they all don't weigh the same. Even models made from the same wood can have differences.

I once played a beastly heavy (about 9+ lbs) late 70's Strat with a body made of northern ash. The sustain and tone made the weight a non-issue.

Weight varies, a lot. Even with 'Custom Shop' models. Some dealers will actually post the weight of their guitars (including Fenders) on their listings.

Swamp ash is supposed to be light, not heavy. You can Google it, I won't get into luthery and botany here. Personally, I like a medium-weight guitar, if it's too heavy it is a literal pain and sounds dark and dull, if it is too light it feels cheap and sounds too bright to me. I like a happy medium.

I had a 1991 US Srat PLus - it weighed 11 Lbs - trust me 2 gigs on the trot with that and I knew it. I couldn't play it after a while.

Traded it in this year for a CS 60 Relic 7.5 Lbs.

I just got the new American Standard Strat and its not heavy at all. I also have a `69 Gibson Les Paul and that feels like your holding a log. You need back support when you play it.

My 04 Am Dlx weighs about 10 lbs. Heavier than my 06 LP!

I understand that Ash would be heavier than Alder.

Would a mahogany or rosewood body weigh even more?

Way back when, I was lead to believe that my mid-'70s ash strat was Swamp Ash (it was heavy). But now-a-days, people say that it was probably Northern Ash.

So I don't know which is heavier!?!

Every Strat I played seemed lighter than my Les Paul Custom, but then I saw 79 Cherry Sunburst( my favorite finish) and just had to have it. It was the heaviest strat I ever felt, but it sounded and played as good as it looked. I was told it was ash and that's why it was heavier than other strats. I had af riend tell me as has been mentioned here even one ash to another will weigh differently. Type of ash and what part of the tree. Closere to the center denser the wood and heavier.

Cheers.
