hi anyone can help me,just bought fender strat vintage red colour from a friend,but just want to make sure it not fake,it has serial z1010479 and fender label at the tunning,and at the metal plate at the neck and body.are this really made in usa?

Its impossible to tell you without pictures. Yes the serial number is legit, but there are many many fakes out there with correct decals and serial numbers. The only way to verify a strat is to match the serial number with the correct details of the model.

It looks legit from what I can tell from the pics. Everything looks to be correct except it looks like someone put strap locks on it. They may be factory too though. Someone else on here will know. I didn't know Am Standards ever came with strap locks. But the guitar looks to be legit.

Actually American Standards and American Series guitars did come with the Schaller straplock buttons from their introduction through about 2002/2003 or so; they just didn't come with the other part that attaches to the strap (you had to get them separately).

To the OP - looks like a nice 2001 American Series Strat. It has a pearl pickguard, so it is likely that has been changed. Is the finish gloss red or metallic red? I can't quite tell from the photos.

Yes, it looks like an 01 Am Std to me. The pick guard may not be original, and I can't tell what kind of pickups it has.

I have a friend who owns a black 2002 model Am Standard. He bought it new and it came with a pearloid pickgaurd. That one could possibly be the factory pickgaurd.

Your friend might have an American Series Texas Special instead of the "regular" American Series if it came with the pearl pickguard. Both the "Texas Special" and the "regular" American Series came in black, but the "Texas Special" had the pearl pickguard while the "regular" had the parchment pickguard.

I asked the OP if the finish was metallic or just gloss red because the "Texas Special" came in candy apple red with a pearl pickguard but the "regular" American Series was only in gloss red in that 2000-2002 time frame.

Whatever works for you regarding string gauge. There's no right or wrong answer, whatever you're comfortable with.

It's an American Series. No Texas Special. I checked the serial number with Fender Consumer Relations a while back because I was thinking about buying it but he wanted too much for it for the shape its in. I checked the serial number because he wasn't sure what year he bought it.

Cool - I had never seen one before but you just never know what is going to come out of the Fender factory; your friend basically got a free pickguard upgrade.

One thing I've discovered in over 30 years of tracking Fenders - for every "rule of thumb" about them you can find a bunch of exceptions, one-offs, and "well it came that way from the factory" guitars.

I don't believe anyone would waste their time making a fake of an American Standard!The fake would probably be better quality(every Fender part has an upgrade part which is of higher quality)if they did do a fake one.Now,a Relic,they definitely fake those.So beware!
