I purchased this guitar about a month ago. I really like it alot and it plays and has the feel of a Fender Stratocaster. My thing is, the high E string sometimes sounds dull and when played open, has a weird sound to it like it is out of phase. It does it either amped or without an amp. I have new Elixer 10's on it and had a total setup done (intonation, neck relief, action and pickup heigth adjusted), when it was purchased. Is there any thoughts to what can cause this?

Thanks, John

Hi girardfireman,

If it only happens on the open string, and sounds ok when fretted, it could be the nut. Maybe just the nut slot for that string is messed up, or you might need a new nut.

Ok, i appreciate your input. I am thinking about trading it in for a Squier Stratocaster Classic Vibe.

It may be as simple as a truss rod tweak.
http://www.fender.com/support/articles/ ... etup-guide

Check out that link and go to Truss Rod.

you may be fretting out (not enough relief) and on guitar's I've set up, the high E string is the first one to start sounding funny.

Check out the link and see if you can follow the guidelines to set the neck relief.

If you don't have feeler gauges to measure the .010" clearance, use a section of your high E string. If you're using .009 or .010 gauge strings, you're close enough.

The B&C is a nice guitar man - don't give up on it! As Shim said, I would bet some tweaking to the nut slot on the high E will bring it back to life. The CVs are sweet, don't get me wrong, but you'll have yours sorted out, just do a little research and give it a go. If you are not comfortable working on it yourself, you could probably have it tweaked for nothing by the guy/dealer who set it up for you originally. Good luck.

Good advice. I will probably stay with my guitar. I will check out the website about the truss rod.
Thanks john
