Can someone tell me something more about this guitar, please?

As described in dating section of site, guitar is '89/'90 "made for export" (whatever that means) and has carved "made in USA" on the bottom of the neck.
That's all I know for now.

Please help me to identify this guitar.

Kind regards,
Goran

I'd have to say it's a standard strat that was made for the export market. Non were sold in the U.S. They were for Europe, UK, Japan....
At the time there were a lot of Japanese copies floating around. Fender licensed a Japanese manufacturer to make Fenders, (MIJ, CIJ). The "I" series, I guess, was a way to get Americn made Fenders into markets that were dominated by the licensed and unlicensed copies.

Thnx for your answer.

There are more questions from me...
Yes guitar was bought in Europe (in Germany).

Can you tell me more about wood from which is made, and why there is no brown line on the back side of neck and also there's no triangle end of the bar on peghead, but it has bar in it, for sure? (I've noticed that M. Knoflers model has no line too)

I also heard for that story about licensing Japanese manufacturers to make Fenders.

Is the quality consistent?

60's strats didn't have one of these lines (they're called skunk stripes), and the triangle you're talking about is the truss rod adjustment. Some guitars have it at the headstock and others have it at the butt of the neck (like you do)....also to emulate that 60's look.

Can you now tell me is it really American Standard Strat?
Also need more info about pickups. There's no label on them.

It is not an american standard. The pickups are stock generic ceramic magnet pickups. Very usual for export guitars.

Very Interesting, I found I(XXXXXX) on the Fender website as a 189-1990 Made for Export.

HOWEVER

When I ran the serial number through the Guitar Dater Project with "American Made" marked I came up with this: Serial number unrecognized

When I ran the same serial number with "Japanese Made" marked I came up with this: Your guitar was made at the
Fuji-gen Plant (for Fender Japan), Japan
in the Year(s): 1989 - 1990

I would contact Fender at: consumerrelations@fender.com and ask to be sure.

I agree. Note the screw spacing of the trem spring cavity cover.

This is the second "I" serial number (stamped "Made in USA" near the heal of the neck) I have seen detailed pictures of --- both indicating Asian construction, not USA. It's making me think this "for export only" line is a fiction.

So how did that "info" make it to fender.com's web site? I think it's because the web masters simply copied info from some other web site! The info did not come from Fender's archives.

I also own a 1990 USA Strat S/N I015357 but mine is a little different in construction. Plays & sounds great. One of the best strats I've played.
Only 21 frets, no markings on the machine heads or neck plate.
Made In USA stamped on heel of neck
Did not come in a Fender case and bridge pick up has been up graded to a Seymor Duncan Hot Rail.
I have been trying to find out more information about Location of assembly, Parts used etc....
The screw spacing on the trem spring cavity are off set as per US strats.
The neck has the skunk strip running down the back.
The truss rod is accessable just after the nut.
I will try and upload some pics later?
Thanks for the info

when i saw the pict, that guitar should be "MADE IN JAPAN"
i know from the constuction and the electronic parts (switch, pots, cables)

that guitar is : standard series japan (before 1991 the first standard series mexico)

the pickups has replaced with mexico standard series (MIM standard)

and ...... the "made in usa" stamp is re-made

that's all ;)

greetings to all. I allso own I serie strat(I015299),just like yours on pics, and I can tell you that this IS limited editin export strat, you can find it in a bluebook of fender under serialization, I prefix....extremly wellbuilt strat. This strat looks alike some custombuilt '65 strat that costs ALOT more$. Neck is onepiece maple,on mine it is a bit flamed(shadowly zebra stripes across back of neck), cannot tell from youre picture, youres flammed too? a vintage 7.25 radius, rounded rosewood slab fingerboard ('60 spec)so grip is very comfy, nitro finish. Body allso have a "bathtub" routing like yourse, witch make this guitar VERY resonant. Bridge is 6 screw but string spacers on it are stainlessteel monoblocks, not curved tin pleh and with one screw locking tuners makes tremolo abuse works great without detuning...I've playes allot of strats but this ones gives rare enjoyment and comfort of playing during to mix of vintage specification neck, quality built, finish and hollowbody resonance.I only saymorized bridge pickup, but stock extra magnet pickup sound great on neck position. On my web search I found that those where prototypes, perhaps last necks from Corona factory before new plant in Ensenada started...some says Japanese made body due to MIJ lookalike series, cause this appears on some of these guitars, but slightly different...I honestly dont know and I dont care if this is all american "pedigree" strat or $@!/am frankencaster...Low action neckset without stringbuzz, great sustain, feels, sounds and plays realy well, allows efortless playing for many hours...way much better feeling than allot of other strats I've played... electronic,500k pots,pickups?... thats all changeble ,matter of taste...but woodwork....beautifull!!!. Kurt Cobain allso owned "I"serie strat like these and recorded "Nevermind" album, his was serial # I 006414 One of his favorites strats, blackone with sticker, "Vandalism: As beautiful as a rock in a cop's face" www.kurtsequipment.com look at number 3 on fis fender stratocaster guitars. My search is over,I've found my perfect strat,used,20 years old, mint condition, not yet vintage but colectable...but that doesn't matter 'cause this ones goes with me in a pinebox,I'll shall play it as long as I live :) :D
