Hi,

When the batteries are low on my VG, I hear a soft pulsating noise.
Is this a normal behavior?

Anyone experiencing this?

I use rechargeable batteries.

Thanks, Ron

Other than this problem, how do you like the VG? Is it everything you expected?

Well, the thing is there could be something seriously wrong with it. I suggest getting it checked out by someone who's either a computer person or a VG dealer. Might cost a lot, but so would another VG. It could also be what it does when the batteries are low. Just change them out whenever it starts. How long has it been since you changed the batteries out? :?

Well the VG is only a few months old, so it is still in it's guarantee period..

I change batteries whenever the blue light starts flashing and sometimes when the blue light stops flashing which means they are completely empty.

If I know that this is no normal behaviour, I will take the VG back to the dealer. How can I get in contact with FENDER representatives / support and ask the question directly? I am living in the Netherlands.

For the rest the output of the Roland Pick-up is lower then that of the Single Coils which annoys me too. Anyone can shine a light on that, is this normal?

Best regards,
Ronald

I just spent about an hour checking a VG out at Sam A**. This sample also had slightly lower volume from the Roland VG electronics. It wouldn't be a show-stopper for me, because all of the VG sounds seemed balanced. But based on your unit, and now this one, the volume difference is normal.

The solid body sounds - strat, tele & humbucker - were spot on IMO. Very convincing. The tunings worked well also. The simulations fall down with the acoustic guitar sounds. I found that only two of them were of any use, and even at that they sounded very "electric". I believe this is due to the different sustain qualities of a solid body electric versus an acoustic.

The "resonator" sound was simply awful. Very tinny. I own resonators, and this ain't no resonator sound. Unusable in my opinion.

The 12 string simulation was very good however.

I'm not into DADGAD tuning, but I lowered the G to an F# to get Open D and it worked well, so at least i could get my three main tunings on this guitar (std, G and D).

As far as the guitar itself, it wasn't bad, but not nearly as nice as my American Deluxe. I would say that any other Strat - MIM or otherwise - would be equivalent quality. In other words I didn't see any added value to it being an American Strat. For this money, and considering all of the technology, they should have put Noiseless p'ups and locking tuners on this thing.

So this guitar would probably solve my main problem of having to bring three guitars to a gig to cover my tunings. It's an expensive solution though when I can get a Hipshot Trilogy bridge for $175.

Funny, no where does anything indicate exactly what "acoustic" sounds are in what position. Even the manual I downloaded just says Acoustic 1 thorough 5. Weird.

I do agree with you on the Acoustic models and TOTALLY agree with you on the noiseless p'ups. A guitar retailing at $1700 should have them. Now I'm going to have to drop another $150 for the custom shop noiseless p'ups.

don't get me wrong I still love my VG but with a couple of changes they could make this thing awesome.

As far as the original question in the thread, I have not experienced a pulsing issue even when the blue light is blinking. when my batteries get low it works just like normal except it cuts out peridoically for a split second. If you play with the batteries low long enough it just dies in the modeling mode. Time to change batteries or play with nosey p'ups.

I'd get it in to an authorized fender servicer before the warranty is out and have it checked. Remember opening the Roland covers voids the warranty.

oh yeah, I forgot about the pulsing. The batteries were dying in the unit I tried out , the LED was pulsating, however I did not hear any pulsating sound from the guitar.

Pulsating is bad. Mine has never done that. I use rechargeables and let them drain completely. A fender service center probably won't even touch it due to it may be a ROLAND problem. You may have to send it back to Fender. There should be some info for such things on the Hang tags that came with the guitar and the warranty info card.

2Buck Chuck, you mention the "RESONATOR" sound. There is nothing in this guitar that is anything like a "Resonator". No where in the literature from Fender does it mention that it imitates a resonator. Not sure where you are getting that info.

hey murphcc1 - check out the VG manual that is downloadable from Fender. Page 6, at the bottom says:
Acoustic (A): In this modeling mode, your guitar plays with the
warm, full sound of an acoustic guitar. In this position the blade
switch switches between various acoustic tones from the warmth of
a dreadnought to the bright, cutting sound of a resonator’s smooth
bluesy twang.

I don't recall if it's in position 4 or 5 on the switch, but it's there. Others on other forums have confirmed the "resonator" sound. But you're right - and that;s my point - there's nothing in the VG that sounds like a resonator.I own a Fender reso - and FR-48 - which I like quite a lot. I don't know which Fender reso they sampled, but they really need to try again.

Only the VG model strat uses batteries. All the other models don't need em. Unless you have a VG, you should be fine.

2buck,,,sorry I must have missed that. But I have used all the voicing's and I never thought that anything sounded like a resonator. Yea, they missed that one by a mile and a 1/2.
